Assistant General Manager

Shape the next chapter of a global AgTech growth story

At eShepherd™, we’re changing the way livestock farming is managed around the world through virtual fencing technology that gives farmers greater flexibility, improved productivity and a new way to manage their land and animals.

Built on more than 85 years of innovation from Gallagher, eShepherd™ combines deep agricultural heritage with the ambition and pace of a growing global technology business. Our products support farmers across multiple continents, and we’re only just getting started.

About the Role

Help turn ambitious growth plans into practical business outcomes. As Assistant General Manager, you’ll be the GM’s key leadership partner across the business, combining strategic thinking, commercial judgement and hands-on leadership to help the business scale internationally.

Reporting to the General Manager, Strategy & New Ventures, you’ll be a trusted commercial and strategic partner, bringing fresh perspectives, shaping recommendations and taking ownership of agreed business priorities. You’ll have the autonomy to lead delivery, with clear accountability and a close working relationship with the GM.

Working across commercial, product, technology and enabling teams, you’ll resolve complex challenges, strengthen alignment and keep important initiatives moving. You’ll combine strategic advice with direct accountability for delivery.

The role can be based in Hamilton, New Zealand or Melbourne, Australia, working closely with leaders and teams across international markets.

You’ll focus on:

• Partnering with the GM on growth priorities, market opportunities and investment choices, supported by sound commercial and financial insight

• Leading agreed cross-functional initiatives from definition through implementation, with clear outcomes, milestones and ownership

• Removing barriers to international scale, strengthening operating approaches and helping teams prepare for new markets

• Bringing together customer, market and business insights into clear decision briefs, recommendations and leadership updates

• Working with leaders to lift performance, build capability and embed sustainable solutions with clear ongoing accountability

About You

You’re an experienced senior business leader who brings commercial depth, strategic perspective and a track record of delivering through complexity. You can move comfortably from a growth or investment discussion to working alongside teams to solve a practical operational challenge.

You thrive in a close partnership with the GM, bringing independent judgement, offering constructive challenge and supporting shared priorities. You know when to lead, when to collaborate and when to escalate, building influence through credibility, discretion and delivery.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

• Significant senior leadership experience in a growth-oriented, technology-enabled or internationally operating business

• A proven record of leading complex cross-functional initiatives with measurable commercial or operational outcomes

• Strong financial literacy and commercial judgement, including evaluating business cases, performance and competing investment priorities

• Experience supporting international growth, scalable operating models and organisational change, with the ability to strengthen leadership capability

• Clear, concise communication and the relationship skills to navigate differing perspectives, create alignment and maintain momentum

• AgTech experience would be an advantage, but it isn’t essential. Experience in SaaS, IoT, connected products or other innovation-led sectors would also be valuable.

Why eShepherd™?

You’ll join a business with global ambition and technology that is solving practical challenges for farmers around the world. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to its next chapter.

You’ll work alongside experts across product, engineering, customer success, sales and operations, with the stability, reputation and long-term thinking of Gallagher, a family-owned business that has supported farming communities for generations.

In return, we offer:

• Competitive salary and performance-based incentives

• Tools, technology and resources to help you succeed

• A supportive and collaborative team culture

• Employee Assistance Program and wellbeing initiatives

Ready to turn ambition into results? If you bring commercial depth, practical leadership and the ability to deliver through others, we’d love to hear from you.

Please note we may close this role early, and applications will be reviewed as they are received.
