About the Positions
We’re seeking Assistant Project Managers to support large, complex heavy civil infrastructure programs, including highways, roads, bridges, transit (bus and rail), aviation (international airports), and water/wastewater projects delivered through both traditional and alternative delivery methods. These positions carry assigned task orders on transit and transportation capital programs through all phases of the project, holding contractors and design consultants to the cost, schedule, quality, and contract commitments they signed up to, and working alongside the Project Manager accountable for the program as a whole. If you have run a scope component end to end on a transit or transportation program and can defend a position on a change or a delay with the record behind it, this is the seat.
This post is for future roles and not for a specific opportunity that is available right now. We accept applications and conduct interviews in advance of upcoming hiring needs. When a candidate is selected, their profile is activated in our talent pool for this specialty area. We notify our talent pool candidates first whenever we have a project need.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- May lead assigned task orders on behalf of the owner through all phases of the project, from task order scoping and budgeting through design, construction, and closeout, coordinating the contractors and design consultants performing the work.
- Track cost performance against the approved budget, review contractor and consultant invoices and payment applications, and develop forecasts the program can act on.
- Monitor schedule updates against milestone and contract commitments, analyze critical path movement, and press for recovery where the assigned scope is slipping.
- Evaluate change requests, requests for information, and submittals for technical merit, cost impact, and schedule impact, and recommend a position to program leadership.
- Monitor contractor and consultant performance against quality, safety, and contract requirements, and document nonconformance so it gets corrected.
- Maintain the risk register for the assigned scope, evaluate mitigation options, and escalate program-level risks to the Project Manager while there is still time to act.
- Coordinate design and construction submittal reviews across disciplines, including roadway, structures, and water and wastewater elements, and track comments through to documented closure.
- Coordinate construction phasing and access on active facilities, including traffic staging, service windows, and operational constraints.
- Coordinate interfaces with adjacent contracts, utility owners, railroads, and other third parties so the assigned scope stays aligned with the rest of the program.
