C/C++ RADAR SOFTWARE ENGINEER (SP team)

Location: Hengelo, Netherlands

Thales designs highly advanced radar systems and optical sensors that form part of complete and integrated defense systems. Our product portfolio ranges from small, portable radars used for applications such as border or asset surveillance, to complex four-dimensional radar systems capable of detecting small objects hundreds or even thousands of kilometers away.

Within the Software Engineering department, the Sensor Processing group is responsible for developing the software that provides optimal sensor control and advanced digital processing capabilities. We work in multidisciplinary teams alongside specialists in systems engineering, functional sensor design, and the design and implementation of real-time systems.

About the Job:

Within the Sensor Processing group, we develop the complete radar software stack.

This covers several domains, including:

• Controlling radar systems and their associated functions
• Managing and scheduling radar transmissions
• Real-time processing of high-volume digital data streams
• Developing algorithms for detecting and classifying objects such as aircraft and drones
• Tracking detected objects and presenting them to operators through dedicated consoles

Our software architecture is highly modular, enabling the development of robust systems that can continuously evolve as requirements and technologies change.

Development takes place in Agile teams, supported by a modern software development environment and toolchain. The teams themselves are responsible for the continued development and maintenance of the software architecture, development infrastructure, and Agile processes.

About You:

Do you have a passion for technology and would you enjoy working on radar control systems, while also having an interest in accelerating algorithms and processing high-speed data streams?

If so, you may be the person we are looking for. At Thales, we offer you the opportunity to build your career in an international, high-tech environment working with state-of-the-art technology.

What we're looking for:

You have:

• A completed BSc or MSc degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Informatics, or Electrical Engineering
• Approximately 10 years of relevant professional experience
• Extensive experience with Linux
• Strong programming experience in C++ and MATLAB
• Experience developing real-time software for complex systems
• An interest in radar control, high-performance computing, and digital data processing

Experience with RDMA, OpenCL, and/or CUDA is a strong advantage.

Experience with software profiling and performance optimisation is also highly desirable.

Because of the complexity of radar systems, you should be willing to develop your knowledge in both the Radar and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) domains.

Your personal qualities:

You are:

• Creative, open-minded, and flexible
• A strong team player who enjoys working in multidisciplinary teams
• Results-oriented and proactive
• A clear and effective communicator
• Able to understand both technical details and the bigger picture
• Comfortable taking ownership and initiative

A good command of both Dutch and English is required to perform this role effectively.

What's in It for You?

At Thales, you will:

• Join a great team in a high-tech, innovative, and international environment, working on challenging projects based on state-of-the-art technology
• Have opportunities to grow within the organization, whether in a technical, management, commercial, or international direction
• Have plenty of room for personal development and taking your own initiative
• Work in a modern office environment with a strong focus on work-life balance and flexibility
• Receive 40 days of annual leave
• Benefit from a travel allowance
• Have the opportunity to personalise your employment benefits, including options such as:
• Buying or selling additional working hours
• Internet cost reimbursement
• Bicycle schemes
• Company fitness programmes
• Trade union membership fees
