Full description
We’re hunting for a talented direct response video editor and static designer who can craft paid media ads (video and static) that stop the scroll and sell. O’Connell Digital Media Group is an Inc. 5000 direct-response agency that has managed hundreds of millions in profitable ad spend for some of the top direct-response advertisers in the world. You’ll join a veteran team of account directors, media buyers, creative strategists and video editors who share a common goal: generate clicks that convert into high ROAS sales and scale ad spend.
So, if you’re obsessed with performance ads that convert, have edited at high volume in an agency or fast-scaling in-house team, and…
You LOVE taking a script and seeing the finished ad in your head before you open Premiere…
You LOVE building the first three seconds that stop the thumb…
You LOVE sweating the B-roll, the text, the music and the sound until the story lands…
You LOVE using AI tools to make ads that were impossible a year ago…
You LOVE seeing the numbers on your ads and finding out why one won…
… then please keep reading as you may be the perfect fit.
Especially if you’re tired of assembly-line edits with no feedback on what worked… tired of the freelance hustle chasing your next project… or stuck inside a single brand, cutting the same content over and over.
Note: Please do not apply if your editing experience is limited to weddings, corporate video, organic social or YouTube content, or to stitching UGC clips into a template.

- #1 Objective: Deliver ads that convert, on time, on spec and on quality
Note: For those applying outside the US, hours may be adjusted to a heavily overlapping schedule we agree on together.
Who Will You Report To?
Hello, my name is Tom Clayson, Head of Creative at O'Connell Media, and I need your help.
I joined O'Connell Media just under a year ago to transform the creative team into one that can scale to meet the projected client growth demands. Our video editors work in small pods, each led by an Editing Team Lead, and with most of the heavy lifting done, I’m now expanding the editing team for the next leg of growth. That’s where you come in.
Direct Response Video Editor in Mexico - Fully Remote at O'Connell Digital Media Group (Remote) — aijobsearch
The volume of ads we need to ship based on our forecast exceeds our current capacity. It’s a good problem to have… but it’s still a problem. I’m hiring editors who can take a strategist’s script and brief and deliver a finished ad that needs no rescue from anyone downstream. You’ll join a pod, work day to day with strategists, and get coaching from me and your team lead along the way.
What’s the Ideal Candidate’s Background?
You’ve been editing direct-response video ads for paid social (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok) or YouTube for at least two years, in a high-volume agency or a fast-scaling in-house team. Cutting multiple new ads a week is your normal week. You’ve edited for supplement, health or wellness offers that drive traffic to long-form funnels like VSLs and advertorials and/or performance-based e-comm funnels.
You’re an expert in Premiere Pro. After Effects is a strong plus and Photoshop. Plus you’re deeply comfortable with AI in the edit: digital twins, voice cloning, video cloning, AI-generated B-roll and images, and AI captioning. We don’t force a single tool (Higgsfield is our main AI platform today), but we want to know exactly which tools you’re proficient in and what you’ve made with them.
Most importantly… you edit for marketing, not for content. You know the first three seconds decide whether anyone sees the rest. You understand the structure of a persuasive ad, from hook to problem to mechanism to proof to offer to call to action, and you cut so the viewer never has a reason to leave. You study why ads win on your own time because, quite frankly, you simply can’t get enough of this stuff.
What Will You Be Responsible For?
Put simply, you’ll deliver the creative strategist’s brief on time, on spec and on quality. Here’s what that looks like:
- The Brief: Take the script and brief from the creative strategist in ClickUp, ask the questions that matter before you start, and lock the turnaround date.
- The Hook: Build thumb-stopping openers. We test the first three seconds, so you’ll often deliver several wildly different openers for the same script.
- The Story: Choose the B-roll, on-screen text, graphics, music and sound design that make the viewer see themselves in the ad. Not the first clip you find, the right one.
- The AI Build: Produce digital twins, cloned voices, generated B-roll and other AI assets when the brief calls for them.
- The Finish: Deliver a fully dialed-in cut with captions, graphics and sound design, checked against our editing checklist, ready for strategist and client approval.
- The Revisions: Take revision notes from the strategist and your Editing Team Lead, turn them fast, and learn from every round.
How Will Your Time Be Spent?
While any given week varies with client demands, here’s a rough estimate:
- 65% Editing: Building ads from brief to finished cut
- 20% Revisions and Polish: Working with your Editing Team Lead and strategists to perfect each ad
- 15% Learning: Studying winning ads, new formats and new AI tools
What Does Initial Success Look Like?
We hold every ad to a clear standard. Here’s what success looks like as you ramp up:
- Great-Enough First Cuts: Your first cut matches the brief and the strategist’s vision, so revisions make the ad better instead of fixing it.
- On Time, On Spec: You hit your weekly ad quota and turnaround dates without letting quality slip.
- Hooks That Hold: Your openers earn the view and your edits keep attention all the way to the call to action.
- AI in Real Ads: Within your first month, AI assets you built are running in live ads.
What’s It Like Working at O'Connell Media?
We’ve built the editing team around what the best editors want most: clear direction, fast feedback and the chance to see their work win.
- A Pod That Has Your Back: You’ll work in a small pod with an Editing Team Lead who reviews your work and coaches you daily.
- Clear Briefs: Strategists hand you scripts with visual direction, so you’re never guessing what the ad should be.
- Access to Data: You’ll see how your ads perform, spot the patterns and build on what’s winning.
- Clear Feedback: Direct feedback from your Editing Team Lead and routine coaching from me.
- Subject Variety: A range of clients and offers, with fresh subject matter all the time.
- A Rhythm That Works: A short daily stand-up keeps every ad moving.
- Room to Grow: Our Editing Team Leads come from inside the team. Your results decide how fast you move up.
Requirements
- 2+ Years of DR Video Editing: You’ve edited video ads for paid social or YouTube that ran with real spend, ideally for supplement, health or wellness offers.
- High-Volume Experience: You’ve worked in an agency or fast-scaling in-house team where cutting multiple new ads a week was the norm.
- Premiere Pro Expert: Premiere Pro is your home. After Effects is a strong plus.
- AI-Fluent: You’ve used AI tools in real ads for digital twins, voice cloning, video cloning, generated B-roll and captions, and you keep up as the tools change.
- Visual Storyteller: You turn a script into a sequence of images, text and sound that persuades, and you can explain why each choice is there.
- Marketing Mindset: You understand what moves hook rate, hold rate, CTR and conversion rate, and you edit to move them.
- Detail Obsessed: Your cuts arrive double-checked, captioned and compliant. Nobody downstream has to fix your work.
- Organized Under Pressure: You keep multiple ads moving at once, keep ClickUp current and hit your deadlines.
- Fluent English: You work effortlessly in an English-speaking team, in writing and on calls.
