JOB TITLE: Director of Analytics, Merchant Ecosystem
LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA (hybrid in our Westwood office)
REPORTS TO: Head of Data
The Company
Sunbit builds financial technology for real life. Our AI-native platform helps more people get to “yes” at the moments that matter with personalized offers, transparent terms, and no added consumer fees. In stores, practices and service centers across the country, Sunbit provides a fast, fair pay-over-time option. For everything else, the Sunbit Credit Card delivers a modern, no-fee credit experience managed in a powerful mobile app.
We are guided by people-centered values: Serve Others Before Self, Include Always, Connect Genuinely, Innovate for Good. These values shape how we build, how we support customers and merchants, and how we work with each other.
What makes Sunbit different is an AI-native infrastructure that runs through the full customer and merchant journey. Our interconnected AI systems power instant decisioning, streamline fraud checks with human-in-the-loop safeguards, and enable highly personalized offers at scale. The result is a quick, fair, and simple experience for consumers and merchants.
We pair this technology with inclusion and transparency. Sunbit delivers industry-leading approval rates — 90%+ in auto service and 85%+ in dental — while maintaining zero consumer fee-based revenue. It is a better way to serve people and merchants, proven at scale.
Today, Sunbit is available across a nationwide, in-person merchant network of 30,000+ locations spanning auto service centers, dental and optical practices, veterinary clinics, and other specialty services. We help teams say “yes” more often and help customers move forward with confidence.
The Role:
We are looking for a hands-on Director of Analytics to lead Merchant Ecosystem analytics. You will manage a team of senior analysts and work directly with Merchant and company leaders.
The role has two halves. First, you will own analytics self-serve: moving us from a model where business teams ask analysts for answers, to a governed, agent-enabled environment where they answer their own questions with data they trust. Second, you will own merchant and BNPL analytics, including the loan application funnel and loan performance.
You do not need a lending background. If you are strong on funnel analytics and self-serve, we will teach you the BNPL domain.
Requirements
What you’ll do:
Own analytics self-serve. Lead the move from analyst-led reporting to governed self-service, and set the adoption targets you report on.
Own the semantic layer. Own the certified metric layer in Snowflake that both Sigma and AI agents query, so the same question always returns the same answer. Decide what gets certified and who approves changes.
Put analytics agents into real use. Work with Data Engineering, Product, and AI/ML to give business teams conversational analytics. Choose the use cases, set the guardrails, and drive adoption past the pilot stage.
Govern AI-assisted analysis. Set accuracy checks, review thresholds, and escalation paths. Measure agent answer quality the way you would measure a model.
Own the BNPL application funnel. Build the trusted view of the loan journey: application starts, drop-off, decision outcomes, approval and take rates, funding, and loan performance. Find the friction, and work with Product, Credit, and Engineering to remove it.
Own merchant lifecycle performance. Measure how merchants are acquired, activated, and retained across our verticals. Define what a healthy merchant looks like, and what predicts the ones that stall.
Set the standard for evidence. Own merchant KPI definitions, and run the experimentation practice: A/B tests, incrementality reads, and elasticity studies.
Lead the team and advise executives. Manage, coach analysts. Act as the analytics partner to Merchant and company leadership. Expect about 30–40% of your time to be your own hands-on analysis.
What You'll Bring:
8+ years in analytics or data science, including managing and developing analysts. Bachelor's or master's degree in a quantitative field.
Expert SQL, plus working Python or R. You are still comfortable working in the data yourself.
Proven experience building self-service analytics: certified metric definitions, a semantic or modeling layer, and the data quality practices that keep them trusted.
Hands-on experience putting LLM- or agent-based analytics into real business use. You can explain how you measured accuracy and handled failure cases.
Strong funnel and conversion analytics in a high-volume consumer or transactional product, plus solid experimentation skills.
A track record of influencing senior leaders and working as a peer to Product, Engineering, and business teams.
Preferred Experience:
Snowflake semantic views, Cortex Analyst, or Cortex Agents.
Sigma, or another warehouse-native BI tool.
BNPL, consumer lending, or payments. Helpful, but not required.
A two-sided or merchant-network business.
You do not need to meet every point. If the core of this role fits you, please apply.
How We Pay:
We believe in paying fairly and equitably based on a number of factors including but not limited to previous experience, relevant work history, interview performance, geographical location, internal equity, and expected level of ownership.
We are targeting a salary of $180,000 - $220,000 per year for this role
This role will also be granted company equity via stock options
