This Role:
BioLite and Goal Zero have joined forces, and we are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our Midvale-based team. In this role, you will develop the firmware that connects our power products to the cloud (AWS IoT) and to our Flutter and React Native mobile apps. You will work on the wireless connectivity modules in our home backup and portable power products. These modules work alongside battery management, inverter, and power conversion subsystems. You will focus on provisioning, OTA updates, device-to-cloud messaging, fleet telemetry, and the protocols among modules in the rest of the system. Our current products use the ESP32, and you will help choose and bring up the wireless platform for our next generation of products. Options we are looking at include embedded Rust (Embassy), embedded Linux, and smart home standards such as Matter and Thread.
A large part of this job is making existing firmware better. You will refactor, add tests, and pay down technical debt so the team ships faster with fewer field issues. You will work with firmware, electrical, cloud, and mobile engineers. You will debug at the bench with oscilloscopes and logic analyzers, and your code will run on devices in homes and in the field.
You Will:
- Develop connectivity-module firmware: Develop and maintain firmware for our Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE connectivity modules, including provisioning, configuration, OTA updates, and device-to-cloud messaging.
- Improve the codebase you inherit: Refactor existing firmware, add unit and hardware-in-the-loop tests, and set coding standards that make changes safe and code reviews fast.
