Engineering Manager - Backend Development

About the Role :

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Engineering Manager to lead high-performing engineering teams and drive the delivery of scalable, enterprise-grade software solutions. This role combines technical leadership, people management, architecture ownership, and cross-functional collaboration.

As an Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in building engineering culture, mentoring developers, driving execution excellence, and contributing to strategic technology decisions. The ideal candidate has strong backend engineering expertise in Java-based ecosystems, experience managing teams, and a passion for building reliable, cloud-native platforms.

Exposure to emerging AI engineering practices, including GenAI tools and Agentic AI systems, will be considered a strong advantage.

Key Responsibilities :

• Lead and mentor a team of 5 - 10 software engineers across one or more product areas.

• Own end-to-end delivery of large-scale, high-impact engineering initiatives.

• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, QA, DevOps, and business stakeholders to define and execute product roadmaps.

• Drive engineering excellence through architecture reviews, code reviews, best practices, and process improvements.

• Participate in hands-on development and technical problem-solving when required.

• Design and guide scalable distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native applications.

• Ensure software quality, system reliability, performance optimization, and timely delivery.

• Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, career development discussions, and team engagement initiatives.

• Support hiring, onboarding, and scaling of engineering teams.

• Identify and resolve technical bottlenecks, operational risks, and production issues.

• Drive Agile delivery processes, CI/CD adoption, and DevOps best practices.

• Evaluate and enable adoption of AI-driven engineering productivity tools and Agentic AI frameworks for intelligent automation.

Required Qualifications :

• 10+ years of software development experience with strong backend engineering expertise.

• Minimum 2+ years of experience managing or leading engineering teams.

• Distributed Systems

• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
