Forward Deployed Engineer

What if you had the chance to deploy autonomous systems in the most critical and regulated industries?

That’s what we’re doing at Layerup — we're deploying AI Agents for the most critical industries on the planet starting with financial services and insurance. Our goal for the next decade is to go from building autonomous systems for critical enterprises to eventually building full-stack autonomous systems (robotics + AI).

Layerup’s mission is to reach kardashev scale 3. Deploying autonomous systems is step 1 in achieving that mission. We don’t believe in building self-pleasuring LLM benchmarks. We don’t use low accountability terms like “research.” We’re an engineering-heavy company. We ship.

Disclaimer: Layerup has a warrior culture. Here’s why you should or should not join Layerup:

1—Ultra hardcore

Layerup is for the top 0.000001%. Our team exudes ultra high energy - energy is the #1 trait we look for in future recruits. If you are not prepared for a level of intensity greater than anything you've experienced before, then don't apply. Revolutionalizing industries isn't for the faint of heart. This is the kind of place that produces the people who will define the entire tech industry a decade from now — The next Larry Ellison. The next Elon Musk. The next Henry Ford.

2—Seek Pain

Great people constantly make things difficult for themselves. At Layerup, we push ourselves until it hurts. Growth does not happen in comfort.

Every hour at Layerup is optimized for power law outcomes: power law customers, power law products, power law features, and power law people. We do not spend an ounce of our time on silly corporate BS. Things like useless meetings are despised at Layerup and high velocity decision-making is rewarded.

3—Be Extreme

The success of an organization is defined by the first derivative of the vector sum of all humans in the organization. The largest vector sum of all the "vectors" in a company is achieved when the "vectors" are parallel and pointing in the same direction. We believe words like "balance" are random vectors used by mediocre people. We believe in the power of focus, paranoia, hustle, and hard work. Extreme people get extreme results and normal people get normal results. Be extreme.

4—Self-belief, risk-taking, and thinking big

Unlike 99.9% of the companies on the planet, we don't “play to our core strengths” and settle on building incremental products, we create core strengths from nothing to build novel one-of-a-kind products in uncharted territories. We don't self-limit outselves. Self-limiting beliefs is the biggest crime one can commit against the gifts that God has given them. Believe that you can do the impossible and you will. We can do ANYTHING!

5—Emotionless Objective Thinking

A surprising amount of people make decisions based on feelings or emotions. Layerup is a place where the BEST ideas win - emotions are irrelevant. We value truth-seeking more than we value emotions.

We are in the pursuit of greatness - not in pursuit of making people happy or protect random feelings.

What you will do:

• On-site deployments with customers.

• Fine-tune models, RL on top of customer data, run and maintain evals, and more.

• Deploy and configure AI Agents end-to-end, from fine-tuning to on-site deployment with customers.

Skills:

• Experience with bleeding-edge, best-in-class full-stack tools like TypeScript, Next.js, & Postgres.

• Knowledge of and passion for AI: strong fundamentals of RL, fine-tuning, agentic workflows, building extensive RAG pipelines, and more. We like to work with people who already have shipped AI applications end to end.

• Hunger to learn: You can quickly learn how to work with services and tools even without previous experience. This is particularly true today and will remain true as we grow. We have to invent faster than Moore's law.

• Impatient with execution, but patient with results (aka you’re the type of person who makes shit happen.

Bonus points: startup experience, built AI apps, worked with more than just GPT, or personal interest in AI.

Benefits and impact:

• Build autonomous AI Agents that end stagnation in laggard industries: We’re on an extremely impactful mission. The world doesn’t need the 10th CRM or the 20th social consumer app. The world needs startups solving really hard real-life problems.

• Work with the best: We have a product-obsessed engineering-heavy culture. Our major focus in the early days would be writing code and talking to users. Help us build this product-obsessed culture from day 1.

• Join a strong engineering, entrepreneurial, and builder culture: We want our founding team to be entrepreneurial and build a company from 0 to 1. We're all builders. All of us like to stay at the cutting edge of tech and this company is an artistic reflection of ourselves.

• Join as one of the early team members of a category-defining company: We want the Layerup mafia to be much more ruthless and successful than the paypal mafia. We are at the beginning stages, and being an early member allows you to have a front-row seat in shaping history.
