Front-End GIS Developer (React, Map Services, Spatial ETL) for NATO with security clearance

Decisions get made over maps. You make sure the maps are fast, right and on time.

The geospatial team of an international defence organisation in Brussels supplies maps and
spatial data to senior decision-makers and analysts. It needs a GIS developer to build and extend
its web mapping applications and the services behind them, working on site with the project
manager.

What you would be doing

• Developing and configuring web GIS applications with ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript and other

modern frameworks

• Bringing spatial data from classified and unclassified sources into those applications

• Converting and preparing data with Python and spatial ETL tools

• Setting up map services, feature layers and tiled data so they load quickly on the web

• Tuning backend queries and map rendering for performance

• Documenting code, service endpoints and architecture, and passing knowledge on to staff

What you would bring

• At least 5 years of web development with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue.js

or Angular

• Hands-on work with a major web mapping SDK - layers, popups, custom widgets and client-side

spatial operations

• Python for geoprocessing and automation (ArcPy, GeoPandas, Shapely, Rasterio, GDAL/OGR)

• Backend services or pipelines that expose geospatial functionality

• Git, Agile, and a bachelor's degree in computer science, geography, IT or similar

• Advanced English; some basic French is helpful

Why this one is worth a look

It is genuine GIS engineering with a visible end user, on site in Brussels, and it runs under a
standing framework with room to continue rather than a one-off project.
