Full description
The Cost and Recharge Lead owns the Costing and Recharge product within the Technology Business Management Office (TBMO), turning technology cost data into accurate, transparent and trusted charges and insights for our customer bases. The role combines finance and FinOps discipline with product ownership: defining what the product must deliver, prioritising the work that creates most business value, running a controlled and auditable recharge cycle, and continuously simplifying and automating how that cycle is delivered. It is a hands-on leadership role that requires close partnership with stakeholders across Global Digital, Global Finance and member firms.
1. Own the Costing and Recharge product backlog. Maintain a single, well-groomed backlog aligned to TBMO strategy and business value, sequencing work so that the highest-value change is delivered first and trade-offs are visible and understood.
2. Lead business requirement definition and prioritisation. Work with key stakeholders to elicit, challenge and document requirements, translating financial and operational needs into clear, testable outcomes and securing agreement on relative priority.
3. Deliver accurate and transparent costing and recharge outputs. Run the recharge cycle across all customer bases to agreed timetables and quality standards, ensuring charges are explainable, defensible and supported by a clear line of sight from source cost to recipient.
4. Oversee front-end reporting and user experience. Shape how costing insights are presented so consumers — from service owners to member firm finance teams — can self-serve, interrogate their costs and act on what they see without needing specialist support.
5. Ensure controls and governance. Apply and evidence controls across inputs, allocations and approvals, maintaining an audit-ready trail end to end and escalating issues or exceptions promptly.
6. Identify and implement process and automation improvements. Continuously review the cost and recharge process to remove manual effort, shorten cycle time and improve reliability, including through standardisation and AI-enabled or Copilot-enabled workflows.
•Demonstrable experience of IT cost management or technology business management, ideally gained with Apptio or an equivalent TBM platform.
•A strong finance and/or FinOps background covering cost modelling, allocation methodologies, recharge and variance analysis.
•Experience of running a recurring financial cycle to a fixed timetable in a complex, multi-country organisation.
•A track record of explaining cost and charging mechanics to senior, non-finance stakeholders.
•Communicates with clarity and leads with outcomes, tailoring detail to the audience.
•Builds trust through transparency and aligns diverse perspectives around a shared plan.
•Pragmatic, data-driven and commercially aware; anticipates risk and mitigates early.
•Accountable for accuracy and deadlines, and champions continuous improvement through change.
•Backlog ownership and value-based prioritisation, managing competing stakeholder demands transparently.
•Requirement definition and documentation clear enough to be built, tested and signed off without ambiguity.
•Cost transparency reporting and front-end insight tooling, with advanced Excel and strong data visualisation.
•Process design, standardisation and automation, including AI and Copilot-enabled workflows.
The role reports to the Technology Business Management Technical and Operational Lead, based in the United States, who owns end-to-end technical delivery across Service Costing, Service Pricing, Service Catalog and Workforce/Time. The Cost and Recharge Lead contributes the business-facing view into that technical backlog, brokering alignment between stakeholder needs and technical solutions. The role is UK-based and works UK hours, with regular overlap into US time zones.
