Head of Finance

We're looking for a Finance leader who's rigorous with numbers, commercially curious and hungry to make a real impact on Tiro's next chapter of growth.

About Us

Tiro is a leading training provider for industrial science apprenticeships. We’ve been helping hungry apprentices to join ambitious businesses since 2005. At Tiro, we really believe that great apprenticeships help everyone. Because there are remarkable apprentices out there just waiting to be found, and fantastic employment opportunities waiting to be filled. But our work will never be just about getting bums on seats and pocketing our commission. In our own small way, we’re helping to change the world – finding people that are working on COVID vaccines, finding new ways for technology to help humanity and helping to tackle the big issues of the day, like climate change. We’re proud to be playing our part in making that happen, and we’re looking for more like-minded people to join team Tiro.

We're looking for a Head of Finance who's as relentless with getting the foundations right as they are with helping a business grow.

Tiro is currently a £6m business with ambitions to reach £10m and beyond over the next two years. Our financial foundations have been rebuilt. Now we need someone with the drive, expertise and commercial curiosity to build on them.

Reporting directly to our CEO and working alongside our fractional CFO, you'll be the senior finance person in the business, taking full ownership of the finance function.

You'll LOVE getting into the detail. From financial controls, month-end reporting and cash flow to funding performance, programme profitability and financial modelling.

But you won't be someone who hides behind spreadsheets, (although you’ll be a ninja at spreadsheets!)

You'll get under the skin of how Tiro works, challenge assumptions, ask the difficult questions and turn financial information into insight that helps us make better decisions.

You'll be FEARLESS in challenging the status quo, spotting risks before they become problems and finding smarter, simpler ways of doing things.

And you'll play a pivotal role in our next chapter. From strengthening our financial resilience to developing the five-year financial model supporting our growth and higher education ambitions.

This isn't a role for someone who wants to simply maintain what's already there. It's an opportunity to own it, improve it and help shape what comes next.

What You'll Be Focused On**

• Owning financial control and governance – making sure our controls, processes and reporting are robust, reliable and built to scale.
• Making the numbers mean something – delivering accurate, timely financial insight that explains what's happening, why it matters and what we should do next.
• Staying ahead of the curve – owning forecasting, cash flow and financial modelling so we can see opportunities and risks coming.
• Understanding what drives profitability – getting under the skin of our apprenticeship programmes, funding streams and commercial performance.
• Helping us grow intelligently – building the financial models and insight that inform our growth strategy, investment decisions and Office for Students ambitions.
• Being a trusted commercial partner – challenging and supporting leaders across Tiro to make better, financially informed decisions.
• Building a brilliant finance function – developing our Financial Controller, strengthening capability and using systems, data and automation to make finance work smarter.

We're looking for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant experience across financial control, management accounts, reporting, forecasting and governance, ideally in a growing SME. You'll be comfortable operating in regulated and audited environments, where strong financial controls, processes and documentation matter. Experience in apprenticeship funding, further or higher education, or another regulated funding environment would be a bonus, but a genuine appetite to learn quickly matters more.

You'll LOVE getting under the skin of a business, understanding what drives performance and turning numbers into decisions that make a difference.

You'll be OBSESSIVE about accuracy and financial control, but FEARLESS when it comes to challenging assumptions, spotting opportunities and finding better ways of doing things.

You're commercially CURIOUS, an Excel Ninja, can work on Xero and Fatham. You'll be confident navigating the complexities of a regulated business. You'll have the experience to own the finance function, but won't think twice about rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck in.

You'll be INFECTIOUS in your ability to bring others with you, making finance accessible, challenging without ego and developing the people around you.

Most importantly, you'll thrive on ownership, autonomy and making things better. You won't just tell us what the numbers say. You'll help us decide what to do about them.

And if you haven't worked in apprenticeships or education before, don't let that stop you. We're always open to people from outside our world with the right attitude, aptitude and appetite to learn.

Because if you don't change Tiro, you can't succeed.

Final Interview Date: Monday 23 November 2026

We love people. The apprentices who’re brimming with potential. The business leaders who are crying out for extra help. And our fantastic team who make it all happen. And if you love people, you treat them well. You pay them what they’re worth. You coach and support them. And give them the opportunities to progress. You take a chance on people because you see something special, and you know they’re worth it.

At Tiro, we’ll look after you because we’re nothing without our people. We’ll never take you for granted and we’ll make sure work’s fun and rewarding. And in turn, we’ll ask you to treat our clients and our apprentices the same way – helping to give people their first big break and enabling businesses to grow.

At Tiro, we make great things happen for people. And that starts with you. You’ll receive:

• £75,000 - £80,000
• 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays
• Hours of work - you can choose your own hours, providing you're around when stakeholders need you and you clock up 37.5 hours per week
• Hybrid working - 1-3 days working in the office, remainder remote
• 5% employee / 3% employer pension contribution
• Annual Away Day
• Regular training and CPD opportunities
