Role Purpose
The Hydraulic Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, reviewing and improving hydraulic systems used in heavy engineering and equipment applications. The role requires strong practical knowledge of hydraulic circuits, pumps, valves, accumulators, cylinders, manifolds and hydraulic power units, along with the ability to read schematics, select components, support manufacturing and resolve field or test-bay problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop hydraulic concepts, circuit architecture and detailed schematics from equipment functional descriptions, sequences of operation and customer specifications.
- Perform engineering calculations for pump displacement, flow demand, system pressure, motor torque, cylinder force and speed, accumulator capacity, pressure drop, heat load, filtration and cooling requirements.
- Select and size pumps, hydraulic motors, cylinders, directional valves, proportional valves, servo valves, relief and reducing valves, counterbalance valves, flow controls, check valves, accumulators, filters, coolers, reservoirs, manifolds, hoses, tubes and fittings.
- Prepare hydraulic component specifications, datasheets, bills of materials, interface documents, design notes, test requirements and technical purchase specifications.
- Review hydraulic schematics, general arrangement drawings, piping layouts, manifold drawings and electrical/control interfaces for functionality, safety, accessibility and maintainability.
- Ensure safe design provisions for pressure limitation, load holding, emergency lowering, stored-energy isolation, hose failure protection, contamination control and safe maintenance.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical and controls engineers to finalize operating logic, interlocks, alarms, sensors, pressure switches, transducers and proportional-control requirements.
- Provide technical support to procurement for supplier clarification, quotation evaluation, alternate-part approval, localization, obsolescence management and vendor technical alignment.
