Intermediate Electrical Engineer

NEW CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Build your career with Kraken Robotics. Make a difference to others. If innovation drives you, and you want a career that makes a difference to the world, helping humanity overcome the challenges in our oceans – safely, efficiently, and sustainably – then come join us at Kraken Robotics.

Kraken Robotics is currently recruiting for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join our Mount Pearl, NL office.

📍 Mount Pearl, NL (Remote within Canada considered with future transfer to Mount Pearl)

Build technology that operates where few others can—deep ocean environments.

At Kraken Robotics, we design advanced subsea imaging, battery, and robotic systems used around the world. We’re growing our engineering team and looking for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to contribute to the design of mission-critical electronics for next-generation ocean technologies.

You’ll report to the Engineering Manager, Newfoundland (10+ years in subsea systems engineering).

What You’ll Work On

• Kraken’s subsea battery systems product line, including power communication rails, charge and discharge modules, associated cabling
• Ownership of mixed-signal PCB designs, including specifications, schematic capture, PCB layout, and prototype testing
• Architect electrical systems spanning power, signal integrity, and embedded control
• Develop and validate designs for extreme environments (pressure, temperature, EMI)
• Collaborate closely with mechanical, firmware, and systems engineers to deliver fully integrated products
• Guide products from prototype → production → field deployment
• Mentor junior engineers and co-op students
• Apply required codes and standards to design criteria

Why This Role Is Different

• 🌊 Real-world impact: Your designs operate in oceans globally—not just on a bench
• 🧠 Technical depth: Complex systems (power + embedded + sensing), not narrow silo work
• 🛠 Ownership: You’ll influence architecture, not just execute tasks
• 🚀 Growing company: Work on products already deployed with global customers across more than 30 countries worldwide

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
• 4+ years of experience in electrical engineering
• Registered as P.Eng or working towards registration
• Background in PCB design and mixed analog/digital systems
• Experience with power electronics and/or embedded systems
• Proven ability to take designs from concept to production
• Comfortable troubleshooting issues like noise, distortion, cross-talk, grounding, EMI/EMC
• Familiarity with lab equipment like power supplies, oscilloscopes, function generators

Nice to Have (Not Required)

• Experience with subsea, marine, or microelectronics industries
• Familiarity with tools like Altium, Zuken E3, or LabVIEW
• Experience with sensor/telemetry systems
• German language skills considered an asset

Location & Flexibility

• Based in Mount Pearl, NL
• Remote within Canada supported (with periodic on-site collaboration), with transfer to Mount Pearl after ~6 months
• For American applicants: this role qualifies for CUSMA work permit

Compensation & Benefits

• Competitive salary and RRSP matching
• Comprehensive health insurance, along with yearly reimbursements for fitness equipment or programs
• Generous paid time off
• Hybrid work arrangements supported
• Professional development supported through training, conferences, certifications, and P.Eng support

Why Newfoundland?

• Short commutes, coastal lifestyle, and access to nature
• Lower cost of living vs Toronto or Vancouver
• Opportunity to take on more responsibility, faster
