About Skillfield

Skillfield is a specialist technology consultancy operating at the intersection of cyber, data and AI. We partner with enterprise clients to protect, transform, and enable their organisations through thoughtful, outcome‑focused solutions. Our reputation is built on impact, not effort.

About the Role

Location: Melbourne, hybrid

Contract: 1 year, with potential for extension

We’re looking for a Java developer to join one of our account teams, working with a large telecommunications client. You’ll build high-performance Java microservices that process real-time network data at scale.

You’ll work across the full software lifecycle, from shaping requirements with customers to shipping well-tested code into production. You’ll be part of a small, close-knit engineering team that shares knowledge, reviews each other’s work and takes on challenging problems together.

What you’ll do

• Design and build reliable, well-tested Java services across multiple platforms

• Make design decisions with real autonomy, and review code with your peers to keep codebases healthy, stable and fast

• Turn product requirements into user stories and tasks, and help shape the roadmap

• Automate build, test and deployment pipelines so the team can ship with confidence

• Analyse emerging technologies and bring ideas that improve how we work

• Work with customers and stakeholders to learn what they need and design solutions that work in the real world

• Write clear technical documentation and pass on your know-how across teams

• Spot delivery risks early and raise or resolve them

What you’ll bring

• Strong Java experience, including building and deploying APIs and microservices with Spring Boot

• Experience processing high-performance network protocols

• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes

• Working knowledge of messaging (Kafka, ActiveMQ) and relational and non-relational databases (MySQL, MongoDB, ClickHouse)

• Experience with CI/CD and code quality tools such as Bamboo, Bitbucket/GitLab, SonarQube or Veracode

• Experience with Golang, and API gateways such as WSO2 or NGINX.

• Australian citizenship and a current NV1 clearance or higher, which you’ll need to maintain

Why Skillfield?

• Be part of a team serious about doing work that matters.

• Join a culture that values clarity, autonomy, and shared success.

• Enjoy flexibility, strong support, and performance-based recognition.
