Stay Finance is an Australian fintech company transforming how Australians access finance. We’re building and improving our digital lending platform to provide a simpler, faster, and more transparent customer experience.
We’re looking for a motivated Junior Software Engineer / Junior Software Developer to join our growing team. This is an opportunity for an early-career developer to contribute to real-world projects, take ownership of their work, and develop their technical skills while working remotely with an Australian-based team.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Assist in developing, maintaining, testing, monitoring, and improving our web applications and digital lending platform.
- Build and update frontend features using React, Next.js, or other JavaScript frameworks.
- Support backend development using Node.js and frameworks such as Express.js.
- Work with databases such as MongoDB and PostgreSQL.
- Develop, integrate, and maintain RESTful APIs.
- Identify bugs, investigate issues, troubleshoot problems, and implement solutions.
- Write clean, organised, and maintainable code.
- Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
- Collaborate with the team to understand requirements and deliver practical solutions.
- Document development work and communicate progress regularly.
About You
We’re looking for someone with a solid foundation in software development who can demonstrate practical coding ability, work independently, and take initiative when solving problems.
Essential Skills & Requirements
- Git: Comfortable using Git for version control, including committing changes and working with branches.
- JavaScript: Good understanding of JavaScript fundamentals.
- TypeScript: Familiarity with TypeScript and its core concepts.
- Frontend development: Experience with at least one JavaScript framework, preferably React and Next.js.
- Backend development: Experience with Node.js and at least one Node.js framework, preferably Express.js.
- Databases: Experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or both. Strong experience with PostgreSQL alone is acceptable.
- REST APIs: Understanding of RESTful API design, integration, and usage.
