Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Shipping & Transportation Manager to lead day-to-day shipping operations in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. This role is responsible for ensuring orders are shipped accurately, efficiently, and on time while managing transportation activity across FTL, LTL, and parcel carriers.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, organized leader who thrives in a high-volume environment and can effectively balance daily operational demands with a focus on cost, service, and continuous improvement.
While the primary focus of this position is shipping operations, we are particularly interested in candidates who bring broader transportation, logistics, or supply chain experience. Experience with freight pricing and negotiation, transportation analysis, carrier performance, and KPI development is highly valued and provides an opportunity for the role to have a broader impact on the organization.
Key ResponsibilitiesShipping Operations
- Manage daily shipping operations in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Coordinate and oversee outbound shipments across FTL, LTL, and parcel transportation modes.
- Ensure shipments are processed accurately and meet customer delivery requirements and scheduled ship dates.
- Monitor daily shipping activity and proactively address delays, capacity issues, carrier problems, and other exceptions.
- Coordinate with warehouse, customer service, sales, purchasing, and other internal teams to ensure smooth order fulfillment and shipment execution.
- Ensure appropriate carrier and transportation methods are selected based on service requirements, cost, and shipment characteristics.
- Maintain accurate shipping documentation, records, and system information.
- Monitor carrier performance and work to resolve service issues and recurring problems.
- Establish and maintain effective processes and procedures to improve shipping accuracy, efficiency, and throughput.
- Lead, train, and develop shipping personnel as applicable.
Transportation & Cost Management
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with carriers, brokers, and transportation service providers.
- Obtain and evaluate freight rates and transportation options.
- Assist with carrier rate negotiations and freight pricing discussions.
- Analyze transportation costs and identify opportunities to reduce freight expense without compromising service.
- Evaluate carrier performance, pricing, capacity, and service levels to support transportation decisions.
