Full description
Start your machining career where legends are built and kept running.
As a Machinist I at Cooper Machinery Services, you turn raw stock and worn components into one-off parts, tooling and turbocharger repairs that keep compression equipment running for customers around the world. No two jobs look alike, and you will learn the trade hands-on, with guidance from experienced machinists.
Cooper has been building legendary engines since 1833, including Cooper-Bessemer, Ajax, Superior and Gemini. Today we support more than 22,000 units in our installed base, and we are growing. Join us now and grow with us.
What You Will Do
- Machine one-off parts and tooling to spec on manual drills, lathes and mills, and set up and run your assigned machines independently
- Repair and restore parts that support our turbocharger service business
- Read blueprints, drawings, job cards and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, quantities and machining time
- Lay out and inspect finished parts against prints and routing instructions, and complete the required documentation
- Set up holding fixtures, cutting tools, jaws and materials, and adjust machine offsets, including wear, geometry and cutter compensation
- Monitor feeds and speeds during machining to keep every cut on target
- Apply the required surface finishes, then deburr and stamp parts to specification
- Support the Aftermarket team and pick up additional machines and tasks as the work requires
- Work safely every day: wear your PPE, use machine guards, lift correctly and prevent slips and falls
- Keep your work area clean by sweeping chips, disposing of used oil, emptying waste containers and replacing broken pallets
