Job Description Summary
The Edison Works Military Material Systems Section supports development, industrialization, and manufacturing of ceramic, polymeric, and metallic materials for Edison Works' military products. The Laboratory Operations Subsection Manager leads the team that runs the section's material and specimen laboratories - ensuring material systems are appropriately developed and matured into test-ready specimens for characterization, that processes are documented, and that materials advance through TRL/MRL maturation.
This leader owns safe, on-time, quality lab throughput; has a unique opportunity to lead the team through facility and equipment upgrade projects; stands up and runs low-rate production activities; and helps build and scale the team as the mission grows. This is a people-leadership role grounded in program management, laboratory operations, and GE Aerospace FLIGHT DECK (lean) principles.
Job DescriptionRole Overview
Lead the people, facilities, and operating rhythm of the Military Material Systems laboratories, translating program needs into reliable lab capacity and output.
· Lead and develop a team of engineers, technicians, and senior professionals operating the section's material and specimen laboratories, owning safety, quality, cost, and on-time delivery
· Ensure material systems are appropriately developed and matured into test-ready specimens for characterization, with processes documented and materials advanced through TRL/MRL maturation
· Take on the unique opportunity to lead the team through laboratory facility and equipment upgrade projects - and to build and scale the team as the mission grows
· Stand up and manage low-rate engineering, manufacturing, and devleopment (EMD) production activities, establishing repeatable processes, process control, and capacity to meet program commitments
· Apply program and project management discipline across a portfolio of concurrent lab and maturation efforts, proactively surfacing risks to cost and schedule
· Deploy FLIGHT DECK (lean) principles and daily management to improve lab flow, reduce variation, and build a problem-solving culture
Additional Responsibilities
· Demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for materials technologies and associated applications
· Utilize experience and expertise to navigate organizational and technical challenges, and develop and execute objectives for self and others
· Motivate the team to execute on commitments within budgetary and schedule constraints, proactively communicating challenges that place deliverables at risk
· Drive accountability for documenting technical data generated within assigned projects, ensuring consistency with engineering policies and procedures
