Full description
The Mechanical Engineer supports the mechanical engineering team by developing accurate and manufacturable designs of sheet metal panels, structural supports, barriers, and conductive copper bus assemblies for low- to medium-voltage switchgear. This role works under the guidance of senior engineers to ensure designs meet customer requirements, regulatory standards, and manufacturing best practices. The Mechanical Engineer collaborates with electrical designers, engineers, project managers, and manufacturing personnel, building foundational knowledge of switchgear design and fabrication processes.
Accountabilities
- Create detailed 3D models and drawings of sheet metal panels, structural supports, barriers, and bus assemblies using CAD software, specifically AutoDesk Inventor.
- Ensure designs align with manufacturability, customer specifications, safety, and regulatory requirements, with review and guidance from senior engineering staff.
- Collaborate with electrical designers to integrate structural and copper bus elements into customer drawing packages.
- Support cross-functional teams, including project management, manufacturing, sales, estimating, and field service, in project execution and technical issue resolution.
- Prepare bills of materials, assembly drawings, and cut sheets to support manufacturing in a timely and efficient manner.
- Learn to identify opportunities to reduce cycle time by reusing or adapting existing designs where applicable.
- Contribute to design reviews and process improvements under the direction of senior engineers.
- Develop working knowledge of switchgear manufacturing processes, sheet metal fabrication, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
