Full description
You will conduct postdoctoral research on novel photonic hardware for quantum measurement and super intelligence. You may focus on integrated superconducting single-photon detectors or free-space optical hardware for neural-network operations. You will design, model, fabricate, operate, and characterize experimental systems; write Python for data acquisition and analysis; document work; and communicate results through presentations and peer-reviewed papers.
Responsibilities
- Develop physical hardware and experimental systems across device and system design, modeling, fabrication, optical experiments, electronics, control, and data analysis.
- Write Python code for data acquisition and analysis.
- Construct and operate experimental hardware, including laser optical systems, integrated photonics, cryogenics, and analog or mixed-signal electronics.
- Document results and procedures in lab books, manuals, operating procedures, and technical reports.
- Communicate results to NIST stakeholders through conference presentations and peer-reviewed papers.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in applied physics, electrical engineering, optics/photonics, quantum science and engineering, or a related field received within the last five years.
- Laboratory experience.
- Python programming knowledge.
- Dedication to safe operation of laboratory equipment.
- Relevant experience in integrated photonics, superconducting devices, nanofabrication, cryogenic measurements, free-space optics, optical system design, analog or mixed-signal electronics, computational imaging, or photonic/neuromorphic computing.
- U.S. citizenship preferred.
