Principal Software Engineer - AWS Cost Optimization
Principal engineer at Infor building AI-powered tooling that monitors, forecasts, and auto-resolves AWS cloud cost issues across a large enterprise software estate, embedding cost guardrails into CI/CD pipelines and partnering with hundreds of internal engineering teams. Core stack: AWS (Cost Explorer, CUR, Budgets, Lambda, Bedrock), Python/Java/Go, and LLM/agent tooling.

Skills
Must have
- Demonstrated background in software engineering: building and operating production systems, internal tooling, or platforms
- Expert-level proficiency in at least one modern tooling/automation language such as Python, Java, or Go
- Deep, hands-on AWS experience including cost and billing services (Cost Explorer, Cost and Usage Report, Budgets), IAM, Lambda, and tagging strategy
- Proven experience building automation and data pipelines and integrating tooling into CI/CD and the SDLC
- Practical experience integrating or building with LLMs or AI agents and understanding token and inference cost drivers
- Strong knowledge of AWS, particularly AWS CUR (Cost Usage Reports)
- Strong technical project management instincts: scope, sequence, and drive cross-team work; communicate with engineers and executives
- Ability to work from an Infor Hub in Dallas, TX or Atlanta, GA with daily overlap 10:00 AM-3:00 PM EST
Nice to have
- Working knowledge of cloud cost and unit economics (showback, chargeback, cost attribution)
- Enterprise software architecture experience
- Hands-on experience optimizing AI and GPU inference cost (model-tier selection, prompt/caching strategy, budget enforcement for headless workloads)
- Experience with agentic frameworks and running multi-agent pipelines through human review gates
- Experience with AWS Bedrock, Service Control Policies, and centralized budget or gateway enforcement at scale
- Infrastructure as code (Terraform or CloudFormation) and container platforms (ECS, EKS, Kubernetes)
- Experience operating in a large multi-account, multi-team enterprise AWS environment
Full description
Make no mistake, this is a software engineering role first. You will spend your days writing code and building tooling, not managing spreadsheets. You will build AI tooling that optimizes AWS spend across our development and product estate, one of the largest ISV footprints on AWS. The work goes well beyond detecting and reporting cost. You will build tooling that plugs directly into the software development lifecycle to protect against cost overruns before they happen, and AI-driven automation that can auto-resolve cost issues without waiting on a human to notice.
The impact is measured in engineering velocity, not just dollars. You will partner hands-on with hundreds of engineering organizations across Infor, embedding cost intelligence into how they build so that teams ship faster and pull timelines forward rather than getting slowed down by cost surprises. We already have an internal FinOps team, and you will work closely with them, but you are the engineer who turns cost strategy into real tooling that engineers use. You own the build; they are your partner, not your manager.
This is a highly visible, cross-cutting role. You will set the standard for how Infor engineers think about cost, and lead through influence rather than authority. If you want your work to be seen at the executive level and measured against both real dollars and real timelines, this is that role.
- Design and build AI tooling and agents that monitor, forecast, and auto-resolve cloud cost issues across AWS accounts, with a focus on AI and GPU inference spend.
- Integrate cost guardrails directly into the SDLC and CI/CD pipelines so that cost overruns are caught at commit, build, and deploy time rather than on a monthly bill.
- Build the detection-to-remediation loop: anomaly detection, root-cause attribution, and automated actions such as budget enforcement, right-sizing, and policy checks.
- Instrument workloads at the account and API level, model token and inference economics, and turn findings into org-wide best practices and reusable tooling.
- Extend cost attribution and reporting so spend maps cleanly to teams and business outcomes, and surface it in executive dashboards.
- Partner hands-on with engineering teams across hundreds of organizations, meeting them in their own codebases and pipelines, to embed cost tooling that accelerates their delivery timelines forward instead of slowing them down.
- Collaborate with Infor's internal FinOps team to translate cost strategy into working software, and with platform teams on centralized controls such as Service Control Policies, budget gateways, and account guardrails.
- Act as the technical project lead for your workstream: shape the roadmap, break down the work, drive it through others, and keep stakeholders and executive team aligned without needing to be told what to do next.
