Full description
Amentum is seeking a skilled and driven Principle Electrical Engineer to join our engineering team based in Edmonds, WA. This is a design-focused role that spans the full product lifecycle — from early concept development through hardware design, fabrication, installation, and on-site operation.
The ideal candidate is a licensed or degree-qualified electrical or systems engineer who brings expertise in low voltage electronics, wiring systems, sensor integration, and harness design, and who communicates and collaborates effectively across engineering and operations teams.
This position offers the opportunity to lead and participate in design reviews, work alongside vendors to bring electrical hardware from schematic to reality, and provide direct technical support during field installation and testing. If you are looking for a role where your engineering decisions have real, visible consequences on mission-critical systems, this is the opportunity for you.
This team supports multiple US Navy research and development facilities associated with top priority submarine weapon system development programs. The facilities are one-of-a-kind and provide a capability not found anywhere else in the DoD. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and is willing to tackle problems that span the hardware lifecycle.
Job Description:
- Designs and maintains complex low, medium, and high-voltage electrical systems, including distribution networks and central plant operations.
- Analyzes system performance and electrical load characteristics to ensure reliability, safety, and compliance with applicable codes.
- Leads the engineering design, development, and oversight of electrical infrastructure projects including substations, automation systems, and energy storage.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams, contractors, and external agencies to deliver large-scale improvements.
- Evaluates electrical safety protocols and champions code compliance, acting as a technical subject matter expert for operations and maintenance teams.
- Oversees development of single-line diagrams, technical specifications, and protective relay settings for new and existing electrical systems.
- Participates in utility outage response planning and performs root-cause analysis following electrical service disruptions.
- Supervises consultant and contractor performance through all phases of electrical projects, ensuring engineering accuracy, schedule adherence, and cost control.
- Reviews and approves project documentation, including design standards and testing protocols.
- Develops energy efficiency strategies and supports environmental sustainability efforts through system upgrades and advanced power modeling tools.
- Maintains expert knowledge of NEC, NESC, Title 24, and relevant IEEE and OSHA standards.
