Project Manager

Come join our team at DIS-TRAN Steel!

Our people – not our machinery - are our biggest assets. DIS-TRAN Steel’s leadership team lives by our company values, modeling our culture of respect and integrity each day. We're a team that likes to have fun, but we also know how to get stuff done.

Lead the project. Connect the people. Deliver the result.

Great project management is about more than maintaining a schedule. It’s about seeing the entire project, anticipating what could get in the way, bringing the right people together and taking ownership for delivering on the commitment.

DIS-TRAN Steel is looking for a Project Manager to serve as a key point of connection between our customers and the teams responsible for delivering their projects.

In this role, you'll manage the technical, financial and scheduling aspects of assigned projects while coordinating across internal teams, engineering, vendors, consultants, subcontractors and customers. You'll keep people informed, solve problems as they arise and help ensure projects are delivered accurately, on schedule and within financial expectations.

If you enjoy bringing structure to complex work, building strong relationships and seeing a project through from beginning to end, this could be a great opportunity for you.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

As a Project Manager, you'll have ownership of projects and responsibility for keeping the many pieces moving in the same direction.

You'll serve as the primary point of contact for the customer while working across the organization to coordinate schedules, drawings, materials, changes, financial considerations and project requirements.

The role requires someone who can see both the details and the bigger picture—recognizing issues early, communicating clearly and taking action when a project needs to get back on track.

You'll also have an opportunity to improve how we work by capturing lessons learned, identifying recurring challenges and recommending ways to improve productivity and quality on future projects.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

In this role, you'll:

• Develop, maintain and actively manage project schedules from initiation through closeout.

• Serve as the primary point of contact for customers throughout assigned projects.

• Coordinate across Engineering and other departments to ensure drawings and submittal documents are accurate, complete and delivered on schedule.

• Partner with Purchasing and Expediting to ensure materials are processed correctly and scheduled for timely delivery.

• Coordinate and motivate internal and external project teams to keep work moving on schedule and on budget.

• Manage consultants, subcontractors, construction managers and project teams to ensure contract plans and specifications are followed.

• Monitor project performance and proactively identify schedule, resource, technical or financial risks.

• Develop and initiate corrective actions when project schedules or expectations are at risk.

• Manage customer changes, including change orders, project accelerations and delays, structural issues, shipping challenges and material concerns.

• Secure appropriate customer change orders when project requirements change.

• Support Billing to help ensure accurate and timely invoicing.

• Provide regular project status updates, including technical and financial performance.

• Escalate significant schedule changes, contract changes, resource constraints, estimating discrepancies and unfamiliar technical issues when appropriate.

• Lead assigned expansions, continuous-improvement initiatives, system integrations and other operational projects.

• Complete project closeout activities and capture lessons learned.

• Analyze project challenges and develop corrective-action plans that can improve future project performance.

• Identify and recommend opportunities to improve productivity, quality and project execution.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:

Successful Project Managers create clarity.

Customers know where their projects stand. Internal teams understand what is expected and when it's needed. Potential problems are surfaced early rather than becoming surprises. Changes are communicated and managed appropriately. And commitments around schedule, quality and financial performance remain visible throughout the life of the project.

You'll also look beyond the success of an individual project.

When something doesn't go as planned, you'll identify what happened, capture what was learned and help us apply those lessons to future work.

Ultimately, success means taking ownership of the project while building the relationships and coordination necessary for the entire team to deliver.

YOU MAY BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU...

• Enjoy taking ownership of a project and seeing it through from beginning to end.

• Naturally keep track of multiple priorities, deadlines and stakeholders.

• Build strong relationships with customers and internal partners.

• Communicate early when you see a potential problem rather than waiting for it to become a bigger one.

• Can bring people together and keep a team moving toward a shared commitment.

• Are comfortable making decisions and solving problems when circumstances change.

• Can balance customer needs with schedule, cost, quality and operational realities.

• Pay attention to details without losing sight of the overall project.

• Are analytical and enjoy determining the best path forward when information is incomplete or competing priorities exist.

• Work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.

• Demonstrate integrity and professionalism in customer and team interactions.

• Look for ways to improve the process instead of simply working around the same problems.

• Hold yourself accountable for both the commitments you make and the results you deliver.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

We're looking for someone with a strong foundation in project management and the ability to coordinate technical work, people and priorities.

Qualifications include:

• A bachelor's degree in Project Management, Engineering, Technology or a related field, along with three years of project management experience; OR

• Five years of successful project management experience along with a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification in lieu of a formal degree.

• Qualifications that satisfy or exceed PMI guidelines for taking the PMP exam.

• Strong familiarity with project management practices, methods and techniques.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Strong communication and customer-service skills.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.

• Ability to effectively organize information, manage priorities and communicate both verbally and in writing.

General knowledge of high-voltage substations or transmission lines is preferred.

The position requires approximately 15% overnight travel—historically averaging one to three nights per month—with additional day travel as needed.

READY TO MAKE AN IMPACT?

At DIS-TRAN Steel, a Project Manager doesn't succeed alone.

You'll work across teams, functions, and external partners to turn commitments into results. That means building trust, communicating clearly, addressing problems directly, and helping everyone involved understand what it will take to win together.

If you're ready to take ownership, rise to challenges, and help deliver successful projects for our customers, we encourage you to apply.

As strategists, operational experts, customer advocates and team players, we all believe in the power of our people. Explore how you can become a part of our team of strength and commitment that's built to last!
