Full description
Python Software Engineer — Miller Maxwell is working with one of London’s leading high-frequency trading firms. The business builds virtually all of its technology in-house, and that includes the software used to build, configure and run its infrastructure.
This is a software engineering role focused on infrastructure tooling, not a cloud or support position. The estate is predominantly bare-metal Linux, with some virtualisation, Windows and a small cloud footprint. At its centre is an internally built Python provisioning platform, which you’ll help develop into a modern, well‑engineered product.
Significant programmes of work are planned across 2026 and 2027, so there’s real ownership and long‑term scope.
What the Python Software Engineer will focus on:
- Design and develop an in-house Python provisioning platform for Linux servers
- Build tools and services that automate server, network and firewall configuration
- Develop network automation, with config managed in version control
- Integrate Vault-compatible secrets management into internal tooling
- Improve build, test and release pipelines
- Build monitoring and alerting tooling for infrastructure health
- Extend automation to Windows builds and the cloud footprint
- Contribute to code reviews, design decisions and engineering standards
Experience required for the Python Software Engineer:
- 5+ years of commercial Python software development
- Strong software engineering practices: testing, version control, code review
- Solid Linux experience, ideally in production environments
- Good networking knowledge (TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, DNS)
- Experience building automation or infrastructure tooling
- Exposure to physical servers or on-premise environments is a strong plus
- STEM degree or equivalent
Financial services experience isn’t required, but a background in a similarly demanding, high-performance environment is a strong advantage.
What’s on offer from the client:
- Competitive base salary and highly competitive discretionary bonus
- Private medical insurance and life assurance
- Pension contribution
- 25 days annual leave
- Gym allowance and wellness package
- A technically deep team where your work has visible impact from day one
- 4 days a week in the office
Miller Maxwell would like to hear from Python Software Engineers, Automation Engineers and Network Automation Engineers with strong Linux and networking knowledge who want to build software that runs a world‑class trading infrastructure.
