Full description
The Senior Accountant – General Accounting is responsible for executing and coordinating accounting activities, including cash and bank reconciliations, suspense clearing, lease, pension, payroll, fixed asset, and other recurring close processes. The role prepares and reviews journal entries, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and reporting deliverables under IFRS and statutory accounting requirements. The Senior Accountant investigates complex reconciling items, partners with business owners and service providers, supports audits and disclosures, and helps strengthen controls and improve accounting processes.
Responsibilities:
- Own assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close activities, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and required sign-offs. Exercise judgment in researching differences, documenting conclusions, and escalating significant or unresolved matters.
- Perform and coordinate bank reconciliations for technical and non-technical accounts, including validation of cash activity, investigation of timing differences, and follow-up on missing or incomplete bank files. Support cash-to-zero and ZBA entries and ensure cash balances are accurate, supported, and explainable.
- Monitor cash and payroll suspense activity, research open items, and coordinate resolution with Treasury, Payroll, Technical Accounting, Reinsurance Accounting, and other business partners.
- Prepare reclassification and clearing entries for payroll tax, 401(k), deferred compensation, and other suspense balances, as applicable.
- Perform lease and sublease accounting activities, including monthly and quarterly entries, lease-related reclassifications, suspense and account reconciliations, and support for financial reporting. Coordinate with business owners to capture lease changes and maintain complete supporting documentation.
- Prepare quarterly pension expense entries, annual true-up entries, pension account rollforwards, reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Review actuarial information, analyze significant movements, and support statutory and IFRS footnotes and audit requests.
- Perform other accounting and reporting requirements for fixed assets, depreciation, non-admitted assets, equity rollforwards, intercompany items, Business Related Services, and other assigned recurring or ad hoc activities.
- Prepare and support ECON, statutory, tax, and other reporting deliverables, including schedules, footnotes, PBC requests, and management reporting support. Ensure deliverables are accurate, complete, timely, and traceable to the underlying accounting records.
- Maintain compliance with internal controls, including ORCS and MARSOX requirements; retain appropriate evidence and support internal and external audits. Identify process improvement opportunities (leveraging data analytics and technology solutions such as Alteryx and Power BI), update procedures, and provide guidance or review support to other team members as assigned.
