About the role:
As a Senior Manager in Engineering, you will lead engineering teams building scalable, cloud-native core platform systems - such as billing, monetization, metering, or high-throughput distributed services—that power Freshworks' global SaaS suite. You will own the technical strategy, operational excellence, and delivery roadmap while partnering closely with Product, Finance, and GTM leaders to align platform capabilities with overarching business strategy. In this role, you will lead and mentor engineering managers and senior individual contributors, establishing a culture of technical rigor, accountability, and continuous improvement. This is a key leadership role responsible for scaling platform reliability, driving architectural evolution, and growing engineering capability across the organization.
What You'll Do:
- Technical Strategy & Architecture: Drive the long-term technical vision and architecture for core platform services, ensuring systems are scalable, reliable, secure, and observable.
- Team Leadership & Organization: Lead, recruit, and mentor high-performing engineering teams and managers, fostering an autonomous, accountable, and continuous-learning culture.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner with Product Management, Finance, Pricing, and Customer Success to translate complex business and revenue workflows into scalable technology solutions.
- Operational Excellence: Establish robust engineering practices, operational standards, and SLAs/SLOs to ensure high availability, resilience, and performance across distributed cloud architectures.
- Platform Delivery & Roadmap: Drive predictable, high-quality execution on platform roadmaps while balancing near-term business urgency with long-term architectural debt reduction.
- Cross-Organizational Influence: Simplify complex technical choices for executive stakeholders and influence cross-team technology investments to establish shared best practices.
What We're Looking For:
- 15+ years of overall software engineering experience, including 5+ years in an engineering management role leading multi-disciplinary teams or managers of managers.
- Deep technical expertise in building and operating distributed systems, microservices, APIs, cloud-native architectures, and large-scale data platforms.
- Proven experience building shared platform capabilities (eg. billing, metering, subscriptions, monetization, or core SaaS infrastructure) consumed by multiple products.
- Lead with Vision & Strategy: Articulates clear team goals, aligns technological decisions with broader business metrics, and anticipates long-term platform requirements across multi-year horizon plans.
