Senior FPGA Service Engineer

Are you driven to dive into complex hardware challenges and take ownership of critical system releases in the world of quantum computing?

At Qblox, we're accelerating the worldwide race to build scalable quantum computers, providing the world's best quantum control stacks. We're not just building hardware; we're building the future.

**Where you come in
**As our Senior FPGA Service Engineer within the Central Engineering Department (CED), you will sit right at the cross-section of deep hardware engineering, system-level problem solving, and release ownership. In this role, you won't just write RTL—you'll dive into complex, full-stack hardware/software challenges as our primary 3rd-line escalation expert. Collaborating closely with embedded software, hardware, and systems teams, you will triage, root-cause, and implement verified solutions for field issues, ensuring those lessons learned are embedded directly into our PLM quality gates. Working alongside a collaborative group of FPGA design engineers, you'll also co-own the FPGA release lifecycle, partner closely with our Release Manager, and drive continuous innovation in our workflows.

What you'll do

• Triage & Resolve: Act as the 3rd-line technical contact for complex field issues on fielded hardware: triage, root-cause, and deliver verified fixes. Lead RCAs for defect escapes and embed the learnings into PLM quality gates, review checklists, and automated regression suites to prevent recurrence.

• Own Release Lifecycle: Partner with the overall Release Manager to drive FPGA release readiness, requirement traceability, bug monitoring, and predictable deployment of bitstreams and patches.

• Collaborate & Innovate: Serve as a technical sparring partner across FPGA and embedded software domains, continuously proposing improvements to engineering workflows, tooling, and architectures.

• Enable Services Intake: Evaluate incoming feature requests from cross-functional teams, helping project teams adopt CED shared modules, automated build infrastructure, and developer tooling.

• Design & Verify: Design RTL modules in VHDL adhering to modular practices, write self-checking unit testbenches, and collaborate on top-level SystemVerilog/UVM test environments.

Why you'll love it

• Ignite Your Drive: You'll be working in the most exciting industry right now – quantum computing – a true deep tech frontier.

• Drive the Future: This is your chance to directly drive new technology forward, shaping the tools that unlock unprecedented quantum power.

• Collaborate with Brilliance: Work alongside some of the smartest, most innovative minds on the planet in an open, interdisciplinary environment.

• Make Real Impact: Bridge the gap between R&D design and field reliability, giving you complete ownership of critical system stability and releases.

Enough about us, what about you?

To truly excel and lead the charge in this role, we envision you'll have the following skills and experience:

The Non-Negotiables

• Proven FPGA Experience: 5+ years of hands-on FPGA design and module-level verification experience in a professional R&D environment, with direct exposure to release processes.

• Field Support & Problem-Solving: Demonstrated background in supporting fielded products, root-causing complex full-stack hardware/software failures, and structured issue triage.

• HDL & Architecture Expertise: Strong VHDL design skills, experience writing self-checking testbenches, and working knowledge of bus-system architectures (e.g., AMBA AXI).

• EDA & Tooling Fluency: Hands-on experience with major vendor tool suites (Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus) and simulation tools (such as Siemens QuestaSim).

• Scripting & Automation: Solid scripting skills (Python, Tcl/Tk, Shell) for build automation, along with Git for version control.

• Collaborative & Service Mindset: Strong cross-functional communication and stakeholder management skills, with an eagerness to advise, support, and unblock engineering teams.

• Fluent English: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Other things that will help you really enjoy the role

• Experience with target architectures like Xilinx Zynq-7000, UltraScale+, or RFSoC devices.

• Working knowledge of SystemVerilog, C/C++, or advanced verification frameworks (such as UVM).

• Practical experience with DSP implementation and timing closure methodologies.

• Prior exposure to quantum technology, high-tech scientific instrumentation, or control systems.
