Senior Game Tester, Game Modes, Clash Royale

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Senior Game Tester to join our Shanghai Studio and take ownership of quality for Clash Royale's new game modes.

Clash Royale is expanding well beyond its classic gameplay. New modes are being created in both Shanghai and Helsinki, at a fast cadence and often from rough prototypes rather than finished specs. You will be the QA owner across that portfolio — defining how each mode gets tested, planning and scaling the resources to do it, and making the final call on whether quality is good enough to reach players. That call takes design sense as much as rigour — judging whether a mode delivers the experience it was designed for, not only whether it works as built. (The Royale main mode, its peripheral systems, and the long-standing classic modes are covered by our Helsinki QA peers separately.)

At Supercell, we believe that small teams that find a way to work well together have the potential to create memorable games. It's important that each team member takes pride in their work and knows what it means to take responsibility and deliver quality and fun to players. As a Game Tester at Supercell, you are responsible for making decisions to improve player experience and testing processes, but will need to collaborate with game programmers, game artists and other designers to create a game played for years and remembered forever.

If you think that describes you, then we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

• Own end-to-end quality for Clash Royale's new game modes — from early prototype through live release and iteration.

• Work with Core Tech QA on the technical layer beneath the modes — release, performance, backend and SDK quality are owned there, keeping your focus on gameplay correctness and player experience, and surfacing mode-specific risk on shared systems like matchmaking.

• Plan and execute tests with no explicit requirements, taking the initiative to analyse the product and goals, and determine the areas of risk and best tests to mitigate those.

• Work directly with mode teams in both Shanghai and Helsinki to understand test scope early, agree on quality bars, plan resourcing and timelines, and ensure the final delivery meets them.

• Scale testing coverage by managing onsite QA testers and external QA vendors – briefing, prioritising, quality-checking their output, and flexing capacity as the mode pipeline moves.

• Design, develop and apply testing processes for our games to improve game quality and player experience.

• Raise the bar across the wider team – bring proven practices from the Chinese games industry into a global studio, and share them with Helsinki-based colleagues.

• Stay up to date with new testing tools, test strategies and AI tooling adoption to QA work.

• Support the development of the game with any additional skills.

What You Have

• At least 8 years of professional experience as a Game Tester, ideally with experience working on both new and live games.

• Strong hands-on experience in testing games – we want a person who loves to do the hard work.

• Proven experience owning quality for a feature or game area end-to-end, including the final quality call before release.

• Experience managing both onsite QA teams and external QA vendors, and scaling test coverage up and down as needed.

• Fluency in both English and Mandarin. English is the working language with our Helsinki teams and some Shanghai team members, so you will need to be comfortable running test planning and scope discussions in English, in writing and in person.

• A fast learner, comfortable getting productive in an unfamiliar proprietary codebase – Clash Royale runs on Titan, Supercell's own in-house engine.

• Practical experience using AI tools to improve QA efficiency, such as AI-aided automated test flows, or a clear appetite and aptitude for building that into how you work.

• Good knowledge of iOS and Android ecosystems, experience in testing games on both platforms.

• Good understanding of the quality risks that live competitive systems carry – matchmaking, fairness, progression and reward economies – which modes inherit regardless of genre.

• Proactive doer who takes responsibility and pride in their own work when given the freedom to work independently.

• Strong cross-discipline communication skills.

• Being a great teammate - we believe making games is a team sport.

Would Be Nice if You Also Have

• Leadership or mentoring experience.

• Hands-on test automation experience, including scripting and CI-integrated test suites.

• Experience working in a distributed team across time zones.

• Experience testing across a range of game genres and formats – the mode portfolio is deliberately varied, so breadth adapts better here than depth in any single genre.

Why This Role

Most senior QA roles inherit a process. This one doesn't. Clash Royale's mode portfolio is new, growing, and built across two studios, which means the testing practice for it is still being written – and you'd be the one writing it. You'll set the quality bar for modes that reach tens of millions of players, decide how testing scales as the pipeline grows, and shape how QA works between Shanghai and Helsinki rather than fitting into someone else's version of it. If you've built QA practice before and want to do it again with real reach, this is that role.

Where You'll Be

This role is based in our Shanghai office. If you are not local, our relocation team would be excited to help you with your move to Shanghai,China. We provide comprehensive support not only for you, but also for your family!

About Supercell

Supercell is a games company from Helsinki, Finland, with offices also in San Francisco, Seoul, Shanghai, and London. You might know us as the makers of Hay Day, Clash of Clans, Boom Beach, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, and Squad Busters. Our mission is to create great games that as many people as possible play for years and that are remembered forever.

So, how do we make great games? By putting together the best teams and giving them the freedom and independence to succeed. And by taking risks, failing, sharing learnings, and killing lots of projects.

**The Shanghai studio
**As Supercell’s first international game development studio, the Shanghai studio is one of the most exciting things happening in Supercell and a unique opportunity to join at a relatively early stage to help shape our path. Our vision is to be a world-class international studio, making new global hit games while leveraging the unique advantages of the game development scene in China and broader Asia.

Hey, you Might Love It Here!

Independent cells and trust are at the core of our culture. But it takes more than that to make great games. We take good care of our people, providing them with the compensation, work environment, and resources they need to succeed while having fun along the way.

**You Are Not Your Job Title ™
**Here, you won’t need to focus on chasing titles or climbing ladders. Internally, our job titles don’t include prefixes like Senior, Junior, Principal, or Director. Recognition isn’t tied to your title, as it doesn't define the impact you can have around here.

Benefits and Compensation

Luring you in with glitter, glamour, and gems isn't what we're about. We want you to enjoy your time here fully, so we structure our compensation and benefits with that in mind. It starts with perceiving you as a human being, not a resource.

Relocation? Yes!

No matter where you’re moving from, our dedicated mobility team and partners will support you throughout your move. We’ll ensure the process is as smooth as possible for you and anyone joining you – whether they’re family members of the human or animal kind!

Not sure if you should apply?

Many candidates with great skills and experience second-guess themselves. The bar is high, but if this role excites you, apply! We’re here to help you succeed. Also, we're happy to learn about any specific accommodations you may need to fully engage in our recruitment process.

Wishing you all the best,
The Supercell Recruitment team
