Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Senior IC role at LEGO Digital Play in London: build and own the AWS-first cloud foundation (extending to GCP) for a new digital-entertainment company — landing zones, Terraform standards, observability, security (GDPR/COPPA) and FinOps — while mentoring engineers. Skills
Must have
- Substantial experience as a senior or lead infrastructure engineer, having set technical direction for production cloud platforms
- Deep AWS expertise at scale: multi-account architecture, networking, IAM, managed data services, containerisation
- Expert-level Terraform: module architectures, state strategies, CI/CD-driven infrastructure workflows others adopted
- Have built a cloud foundation from a low or zero baseline, making early architectural decisions yourself
- Track record designing reliability/observability systems (SLO frameworks, incident practices) with tools like CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus or OpenSearch
- Security- and privacy-minded; experience designing infrastructure for regulated consumer environments with working knowledge of GDPR and COPPA
- Fluency with modern AI tooling in development and operations
- Able to influence without authority: clear technical proposals, explaining trade-offs, mentoring engineers
Nice to have
- Production experience with Google Cloud alongside AWS
- Experience designing infrastructure for ML workloads: GPU orchestration, model serving (Triton, vLLM or equivalent), MLOps tooling
- Experience leading design of an internal developer platform or paved-road system
- Background in games or interactive-media infrastructure, including content and asset pipelines
- Experience in brand-safe or regulated consumer ecosystems such as children's products, health or fintech
Full description
LEGO Digital Play will bring the LEGO® brand into digital entertainment in new, innovative, and wholly-owned ways. Our mission is to ensure the LEGO brand remains as powerfully a part of children’s lives in the coming decades as it has ever been. We aim to reach every kid on the planet, their parents, and adult fans, and provide them with meaningful, magical, and playful new experiences.
We are at an early phase of this new company, offering a unique opportunity to build a new entity for the world's most beloved and trusted brand. Our culture is open, collaborative, intellectually rigorous, and creatively vibrant.
We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, Cloud, who has built cloud platforms from the ground up and wants to set the technical direction for one at the start of a new company. You will own the architecture of the cloud foundation that our engineering teams build on, from landing zones and infrastructure as code through to observability, security and cost, and set the standards other engineers follow.
This is a senior individual contributor role: you will lead through technical judgement, design reviews and mentoring rather than line management. It is a newly created role based in London, reporting to the Director of Technical Operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the architecture of the cloud foundation, AWS-first and extending to Google Cloud where needed, making the key decisions on landing zones, account and project structure, networking and secrets management.
- Set the security, privacy and compliance posture at the infrastructure layer, designing least-privilege IAM, encryption at rest and in transit, audit logging and controls that meet GDPR and COPPA requirements by default.
- Define the Terraform standards, module architecture and review practices the wider engineering organisation builds on, and hold the bar on quality.
- Design paved roads and self-service tooling that let engineering teams ship reliably and quickly without reinventing the basics, treating internal teams as customers.
- Drive the reliability and observability strategy, including SLO frameworks, metrics, tracing, log aggregation and incident practices, and lead on the most complex production issues.
- Lead infrastructure design for compute-intensive and specialised workloads, including GPU capacity and machine learning platform needs, in partnership with the teams that depend on them.
- Own cost architecture and FinOps practice, building cost visibility in from the start and making the trade-offs between cost, performance and resilience explicit.
- Mentor engineers, lead design reviews and write the technical proposals that shape how the infrastructure team and its standards develop.
