Senior NLP/LLM/LLMOps Data Scientist

Build trustworthy AI for one of Europe's leading banks

Large Language Models are transforming how organizations process information, support decisions, and serve customers.

At ING, we're applying these technologies to one of the most demanding environments possible: banking. As part of our global Analytics Engineering organization, you'll help build conversational AI solutions, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, and intelligent agent-assist capabilities that support customer-facing and operational teams across multiple countries.

This is an opportunity to work on AI systems where success is measured not only by performance, but also by reliability, explainability, and trust.

Why This Role Is Different

Many NLP and LLM roles focus on recommendation systems, personalization, or content generation.

At ING, you'll work on AI solutions operating in a regulated environment where accuracy, auditability, and responsible AI practices matter as much as model performance.

You'll help develop solutions that support KYC processes, document understanding, conversational AI, and knowledge-intensive workflows that enable teams across multiple countries to make better and faster decisions.

Role Summary

As a Senior NLP / LLM / LLMOps Data Scientist, you will work at the intersection of Natural Language Processing, Generative AI, Information Retrieval, and Machine Learning Engineering.

You will partner with ML Engineers, Customer Journey Experts, Product teams, and business stakeholders to design, build, and operationalize production-grade NLP and Generative AI solutions.

Your responsibilities will span the full lifecycle of AI development—from experimentation and model development to deployment, monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement.

As part of ING's global Analytics organization, you'll contribute to conversational AI and KYC capabilities supporting teams across multiple countries and business domains.

Work Model

At ING Hubs Türkiye, flexibility is more than a benefit — it's part of how we work.

Our hybrid working model is designed to balance collaboration, innovation, and personal flexibility. Team members typically come together in our Vadistanbul office for two days per week during three weeks of the month, while one week each month is fully remote.

We also offer additional flexibility during August, allowing colleagues to work remotely throughout the month.

As part of a globally distributed organization, you'll collaborate with colleagues across multiple ING locations while contributing to large-scale AI initiatives that create impact across the bank.

What You'll Build

As a Senior NLP / LLM / LLMOps Data Scientist, you'll help build and scale conversational AI and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions that support ING's KYC and customer operations across multiple countries.

Your work may include:

• Conversational AI and agent-assist capabilities.
• RAG solutions built on enterprise knowledge and regulated banking documentation.
• NLP pipelines for structured and unstructured text processing.
• Production-grade LLM applications and LLMOps capabilities, including evaluation, monitoring, experimentation, and continuous optimization.
• AI solutions designed for reliability, explainability, and regulatory compliance.

For example, you may develop solutions that help KYC agents retrieve relevant information, summarize documentation, support onboarding processes, and improve decision-making through explainable AI capabilities.

About You

We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you'll stay curious. Keep learning. Take on responsibility. In return, we'll back you to develop into an even more awesome version of yourself.

We're looking for someone who combines strong NLP and LLM expertise with a production mindset and enjoys solving complex information-retrieval and conversational AI challenges.

You likely bring:

• 4+ years of experience in NLP, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, or Generative AI.
• Experience building and deploying production-grade NLP or LLM-based applications.
• Strong Python skills and familiarity with modern Deep Learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Experience with Transformers, embeddings, RAG architectures, vector search, or conversational AI systems.
• Experience operationalizing Generative AI applications and working across the full ML lifecycle.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain AI concepts to both technical and business audiences.
• Fluent English.

Experience with GCP, Vertex AI, LangChain, LlamaIndex, Hugging Face, CI/CD, CD4ML, MLOps, or LLMOps practices will be considered an advantage.

To succeed in this role, you'll balance innovation with reliability, apply rigorous evaluation practices, and help build AI solutions that perform effectively in a highly regulated banking environment.

Your Growth Path

As part of ING's Analytics Engineering organization, you'll work alongside Data Scientists, AI Engineers, ML Engineers, Product Managers, and Agentic AI specialists.

This role offers opportunities to deepen expertise in NLP, LLMs, LLMOps, and Generative AI while contributing to globally used AI capabilities and international initiatives.
