AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we're looking for talented people who want to help.

You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Amazon Web Services is hiring a Senior Product Design Electrical Engineer for our Electrical Products and Services (EPS) team. EPS is a global engineering team within AWS Data Center Engineering, responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of electrical power distribution products used across our rapidly expanding data center footprint. Our product portfolio spans the full electrical distribution chain, including medium voltage switchgear, medium voltage transformers, low voltage switchgear, generators, busduct, transfer switches, power distribution cabinets, and other critical electrical infrastructure.

The EPS team works to design and develop resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution products and systems. As an engineer at Amazon, they are responsible for achieving world class uptime for our customers. They drive continuous advancements and improvements with our designs and communicate technical direction to senior leadership. They seek new ways to improve the reliability, scalability, and cost effectiveness of our engineering designs. As an engineer at Amazon, they have the opportunity to design, innovate, and improve the products our customers rely on.

Amazon offers a work environment where speed and quality matter. We continue to grow and are looking for individuals that can support our speed to market, enjoy a challenge, and have a desire for professional growth and continuous learning. Amazon's work environment is unique in every aspect and offers a great opportunity for the right candidate.

If you have led or worked with high performing teams of engineers and enjoy working on complex problems, we want to hear from you. At Amazon, the successful candidate will be responsible for working on product designs and supporting our wide variety of customers. Great ideas are encouraged and supported. Ingenuity is the main mechanism which supports our focus on quality, speed, and cost.

At Amazon, teamwork is necessary for us to accomplish our goals. The successful candidate must be able to work within a team and depend on others to accomplish the required work. As a product engineer at Amazon, they will work with other internal groups as well as external groups including engineering service providers, manufacturers, vendors, inspectors, third party testing labs, and contractors.

Amazon has a global presence. Travel will be necessary but should not be more than 30%. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel may be necessary. Their contribution could consist of leading international projects and could require developing engineering information packages. An understanding of international electrical product design requirements is helpful but not necessary.

Key job responsibilities

• Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design.
• Lead new product design, development and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS data centers, including medium voltage switchgear, medium voltage transformers, low voltage switchgear, generators, busduct, transfer switches, power distribution cabinets, and other electrical infrastructure.
• Develop Capex and Opex spending budgets taking into account development costs with vendors, prototyping needs, testing and specialized tooling requirements.
• Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment and components, ensuring tier 2-3 supply chain resiliency.
• Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.
• Validate design through prototype, pre-production and first-of-kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analysis through each step and updating design and documentation.
• Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
• Provide support for manufacturing activities for new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
• Be a leader within the product development team as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
