Senior Project Manager - Water/Wastewater

Bring your experience. Find your people. Build what matters.

At Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC), we believe great work happens when talented people have the trust, resources, and support to do their best work.

As a Senior Project Manager, you’ll bring your experience in water/wastewater infrastructure to meaningful projects that shape the communities we serve. You’ll have the opportunity to manage complex engineering projects from development through construction, collaborate with talented professionals across disciplines, and build strong relationships with clients, consultants, and contractors.

Most importantly, you won’t be expected to do it alone. You’ll be surrounded by a multidisciplinary team that values collaboration, shares knowledge, and is invested in your success.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Project Manager, you’ll serve as a trusted project leader, helping guide projects of significant scale and complexity while supporting the people around you.

You’ll:

• Lead the development of projects from marketing and contract negotiation through scope definition and contract execution.

• Develop and manage comprehensive project scopes, budgets, schedules, and fee proposals.

• Direct and oversee the entire project lifecycle, including development/scoping, design, bidding, construction, and project closeout.

• Execute cross-discipline coordination and perform rigorous QA/QC checks to ensure complete project document quality and compliance.

• Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and sub-consultants.

• Identify, manage, and mitigate risk management concerns, escalating critical issues appropriately.

• Prepare and coordinate contract documents, reports, amendments, change orders, and project modifications as projects progress.

• Drive client satisfaction and business development by building intentional external relationships with prospective clients and key allies.

• Resolve complex technical, financial, regulatory, and environmental issues on high-impact assignments.

• Reinforce GMC standards, project delivery procedures, and firm core values across all project efforts.

We’ll Support Your Growth

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager who is ready to make an impact across GMC.

It’s about sharing what you know, learning from others, and helping the entire team succeed.

In this role, you’ll have opportunities to:

• Delegate project assignments and actively mentor less experienced engineers to support their technical growth.

• Collaborate in developing new techniques, improved engineering processes, and firm-wide standards.

• Actively participate in internal GMC committees aligned with your personal and professional interests.

• Engage in lifelong learning opportunities to maintain proficiency in technical and contemporary industry issues.

• Lead community service initiatives and hold leadership positions in local professional societies.

• Build long-term client development strategies using your specialized technical expertise.

The Kind of Leader We’re Looking For

You’re an experienced Senior Project Manager who enjoys both the work and the people behind the work.

You bring:

• A commitment to quality and thoughtful problem-solving.

• A collaborative mindset and willingness to share your experience with others.

• Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.

• A desire to contribute to something bigger than an individual project.

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering

• Minimum of 10 years of progressive engineering and project management experience

• Professional Engineer (PE) license required

• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, GIS, and Microsoft Office Suite

• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management decision-analysis tools

Where You’ll Work

This is primarily an office-based role, with opportunities to get out into the field and stay connected to the projects and people you’re serving. In our GMC offices, you have access to a collaborative multidisciplinary environment designed for innovation and team success.

Travel: Up to 20%, including project site visits, client meetings, business development activities, and professional development functions.

Fieldwork may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, temperatures, construction environments, pollutants, chemicals, insects, and other site conditions. Appropriate protective clothing and equipment will be provided and required as appropriate.

The role also includes periods of desk and computer work, as well as occasional bending, twisting, crouching, and other physical movements. Employees may occasionally need to lift up to 25 pounds.

Why GMC?

At GMC, we believe communities are built by people—not companies. We’re one of the Southeast’s largest privately held architecture and engineering firms, but our size isn’t what defines us. Our people do.

We bring architects, designers, engineers, planners, environmental professionals, surveyors, and disaster recovery experts together to solve complex challenges and create better outcomes for the communities we serve. Our work touches everyday life—from schools, parks, hospitals, and commercial developments to clean water, safe streets, resilient environments, and everything in between.

And while the work matters, how we work matters just as much.

We’re guided by four values:

• Quality — We care deeply about the work we put into the world.

• Integrity — We do the right thing for our clients, colleagues, and communities.

• Creativity — We believe the best solutions come from curiosity, collaboration, and fresh thinking.

• Care — We invest in our people, our clients, and the places we’re fortunate to serve.

At GMC, your experience has a place, your ideas have a voice, and your leadership can make a difference. Come build something meaningful with us.

GMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer, including individuals with disabilities and veterans.
