Senior Python Backend Engineer

VLogic Innovations is looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain robust backend systems for complex, data-driven applications.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in production Python, advanced PostgreSQL database design, hierarchical data modelling, file-processing pipelines, and cloud infrastructure.

This role requires an engineer who can take ownership of backend architecture, make sound technical decisions, and build reliable, secure, and scalable systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Python and FastAPI or a comparable asynchronous framework.
• Design and optimise PostgreSQL schemas, including hierarchical data structures, indexes, queries, transactions, and database migrations.
• Build reliable data-ingestion pipelines for Excel, CSV, and other tabular data sources.
• Implement large-file upload workflows using object storage and presigned URLs.
• Develop background processing systems and queues with appropriate retry, timeout, and failure-handling mechanisms.
• Design and implement authentication and authorisation systems for multi-tenant applications.
• Deploy, monitor, and maintain containerised applications using Docker and cloud platforms.
• Write automated tests, maintain technical documentation, and ensure the reliability of production systems.
• Collaborate with distributed teams, document technical decisions, and work independently in an asynchronous environment.

Required Skills and Experience

• 6+ years of professional backend engineering experience, with strong production Python experience.
• Hands-on experience with FastAPI or a comparable asynchronous Python framework, along with Pydantic.
• Strong PostgreSQL experience, particularly schema design, hierarchical data modelling, query optimisation, indexing, transactional correctness, and production database migrations.
• Experience with PostgreSQL ltree or equivalent materialized-path or recursive tree-structured data models.
• Production experience with object storage, presigned URLs, large-file handling, and file lifecycle management.
• Experience with Alembic or equivalent database migration tooling.
• Experience with background job processing and queue systems such as Celery, RQ, Arq, or SQS.
• Experience processing Excel and CSV data using Python libraries such as pandas or openpyxl, including validation and idempotent database updates.
• Practical experience designing authentication and authorisation models, including RBAC, ABAC, or hierarchy-scoped permissions.
• Strong Docker knowledge, including multi-stage builds, dependency management, and secure handling of credentials.
