Senior Software Architect

What We Do:

Florence software advances cures by helping the world’s most important research sites do their best work. Our solutions are now used by over 65,000 research teams in 90 countries around the world—we’re the most widely deployed site workflow tool in the industry. By the end of the decade, we’ll double the pace at which new medicines get to market by doubling the output of trial site teams. To date, we were named a Deloitte Fast 50 business, G2 Category Leader, an Inc. & AJC best place to work, and an Inc. 5000 company five years in a row.

At Florence, we are committed to make the world a better place by accelerating research while providing an environment for our employees where they can be happy in their lives, enjoy their jobs, and grow.

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

We are looking for a Senior Software Architect to define and evolve scalable, secure, and resilient technical solutions across Florence’s multi-tenant, multi-region platform, spanning enterprise applications, platform services, data ecosystem, integrations, and AI capabilities.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on translating complex business and product requirements into practical, reusable architectures. You will collaborate across Engineering, Product, Platform, Data, AI, and customer-facing teams to ensure solutions meet immediate business needs while supporting long-term product and technology strategy.

You will influence technical direction across teams, guide critical architecture decisions, and help Florence build a modern, scalable, and increasingly AI-enabled platform.

You Will:

Solution & Platform Architecture

• Design end-to-end solutions across Florence products, platform services, integrations, data systems, and AI capabilities, translating complex business and customer requirements into scalable architectures and implementation roadmaps.

• Define reusable patterns for APIs, event-driven systems, and cloud-native services that reduce duplication and customer-specific implementations.

• Evaluate trade-offs across scalability, performance, security, reliability, cost, and time to market.

• Simplify systems, reduce technical debt, and improve maintainability across the platform.

• Partner with engineering teams on the design and implementation of complex solutions.

• Identify opportunities to simplify systems, reduce technical debt, and improve platform scalability and maintainability.

• Promote consistent engineering standards, reusable components, and clear architectural documentation.

Data, Integrations & AI

• Design architectures that connect applications, enterprise systems, data platforms, and third-party services.

• Partner with Data Engineering to support data integration, master data management, data quality, governance, and real-time data flows.

• Identify opportunities to incorporate AI, generative AI, and intelligent automation into products and enterprise workflows.

• Evaluate AI and agentic solutions based on business value, security, reliability, performance, and operational cost.

• Establish appropriate patterns for data access, API integration, workflow orchestration, observability, and secure AI adoption.

Technical Leadership & Engineering Excellence

• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Platform, Data, AI, Security, and Professional Services to align architecture with business and product priorities.

• Lead architecture and design reviews for high-impact initiatives and cross-product dependencies.

• Develop reference architectures, technical specifications, and architecture decision records.

• Mentor engineers and technical leaders, influencing decisions through technical depth and sound judgment rather than formal management authority.

• Promote pragmatic architecture practices that improve engineering velocity without compromising quality, security, or reliability.

An Ideal Candidate Has:

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, system design, and software architecture.

• Proven experience designing and delivering complex, enterprise-scale software solutions.

• Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, APIs, event-driven architecture, and cloud-native technologies.

• Experience with enterprise integrations, platform architecture, and data-intensive applications.

• Strong cloud architecture experience, preferably with AWS.

• Experience designing multi-tenant SaaS architectures, including tenant isolation and multi-region deployment.

• Familiarity with modern data platforms, data governance, and real-time data processing.

• Working knowledge of generative AI, LLMs, RAG, AI agents, or AI-enabled application architectures.

• Strong understanding of security, identity and access management, privacy, scalability, reliability, and observability.

• Ability to translate business needs into practical technical designs and guide solutions from architecture through implementation.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.

We’ll Be Extra Excited If You Have:

• Experience in enterprise SaaS, healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated industries.

• Experience with AWS services, event streaming technologies such as Kafka, and enterprise integration patterns.

• Experience designing reusable platform capabilities across multiple products and customer environments.

• Experience implementing production AI solutions and intelligent workflow automation.

What Success Looks Like:

• Establish scalable, reusable architecture patterns across Florence's products and platform.

• Improve alignment across Engineering, Product, Platform, Data, and AI initiatives.

• Reduce architectural complexity, duplicated capabilities, and one-off customer implementations.

• Accelerate delivery of complex enterprise solutions through clear technical direction and reusable components.

• Improve system reliability, security, performance, and maintainability.

• Enable the adoption of AI and intelligent automation where they deliver measurable business value.
