Senior Software Development Engineer
Senior engineer at Lambda (AI/GPU cloud) building the software that automates its data center networks: zero-touch device provisioning, network config-as-code pipelines, capacity planning, and internal APIs/CLIs. Core stack is Linux, distributed systems, and networking (TCP/IP, BGP, data center fabrics). Onsite 4 days/week in Bellevue or San Francisco.

Skills
Must have
- 6+ years professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems
- Write production-quality code with deep expertise in multiple languages
- Built automation or infrastructure tooling used by other engineers (provisioning systems, deployment pipelines, workflow engines, internal APIs)
- Solid grasp of distributed systems design: API design, data modeling, idempotency, handling partial failures
- Strong engineering practices: code review, automated testing, CI/CD, git-based workflows
- Comfortable on the Linux command line; understands TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, IP routing
- Led technical projects end to end from design doc through production rollout and mentored engineers
- Communicates clearly with software, network, and operations teams; turns pain points into software requirements
Nice to have
- Networking domain experience: data center networks (Clos/spine-leaf fabrics, BGP, EVPN/VXLAN, ECMP)
- Automating network devices (Arista, Juniper, Cisco, NVIDIA Cumulus/SONiC) via APIs, NETCONF/gNMI, or Jinja templating
- Familiarity with network automation tools such as Ansible, Nornir, Netmiko, NAPALM, or Terraform
- Experience building on network source-of-truth, DCIM, or IPAM systems
- Experience with capacity planning/forecasting tools or large volumes of time-series telemetry
- Familiarity with HPC/AI networking (InfiniBand or RoCEv2) at GPU cluster scale
- Experience running services on Kubernetes
- Understanding of data center power, space, and cooling constraints
Full description
Lambda, The Superintelligence Cloud, is a leader in AI cloud infrastructure serving tens of thousands of customers. Our customers range from AI researchers to enterprises and hyperscalers. Lambda's mission is to make compute as ubiquitous as electricity and give everyone the power of superintelligence. One person, one GPU.
If you'd like to build the world's best AI cloud, join us.
*Note: This position requires presence in our Bellevue office location 4 days per week; Lambda’s designated work from home day is currently Tuesday.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and operate the software that automates Lambda's network lifecycle, from data center build-out and device provisioning through day-2 operations
- Build provisioning and zero-touch deployment systems that take network devices for new GPU clusters from racked to production-ready with minimal manual work
- Develop pipelines that generate, validate, and deploy network configuration as code, with automated testing, staged rollouts, and safe rollback
- Build capacity planning tools that combine inventory, topology, and utilization data to forecast port, bandwidth, optics, and IP address needs as Lambda's footprint grows
- Keep intended and live network state in sync by integrating automation with Lambda's source-of-truth, inventory, and IPAM systems
- Create APIs, services, and CLIs that network engineers and other internal teams use to request, change, and audit network resources
- Instrument the systems you own with metrics, logging, and alerting, and use that data to improve their reliability and speed
- Partner with Network Engineering, Data Center Operations, and platform teams to turn manual runbooks into reliable, self-service automation
- Participate in the on-call rotation for the automation systems and tooling your team owns
You
- Have 6+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems
- Write production-quality code, with deep expertise in multiple languages
- Have built automation or infrastructure tooling used by other engineers, such as provisioning systems, deployment pipelines, workflow engines, or internal APIs
- Have a solid grasp of distributed systems design, including API design, data modeling, idempotency, and handling partial failures
- Follow strong engineering practices: code review, automated testing, CI/CD, and git-based workflows
- Are comfortable on the Linux command line and understand core networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and IP routing
