Full description
Meet the Team As a global technology leader, Cisco has been transforming how people connect, communicate, and collaborate for decades. Our innovation in networking, security, and cloud-based solutions enables organizations to drive digital transformation and achieve their business goals. The Collaboration Employee Experience organization creates workspace solutions that connect people, places, and experiences. Located in Galway, Ireland, you will be part of our engineering team, working closely with colleagues both locally and as part of a wider international team spanning Oslo and the United States. You will work closely with Cisco’s Devices organization — a team of 300+ passionate engineers across hardware, software, mechanics, audio, media processing, and artificial intelligence — from concept to product. Together we strive to create best-in-class video conferencing experiences by bringing diverse engineering disciplines under one mission.
Your Impact
You are a senior software engineer who enjoys working across the software stack, from low-level Linux and Android platform development through to integration and debugging. You thrive as part of a team and contribute to our culture of shared learning, yet you are equally comfortable taking ownership and figuring things out independently when needed. You will be a technical anchor on Android platform work — designing, building, and optimizing Android environments that run our core communications software on Cisco collaboration devices.
- Design, implement, and maintain software in C++, Java, Python, and Rust, with a primary focus on Android platform and systems-level development
- Help integrate software from our meeting platform partners into our own software stack, with particular focus on Android-based components
- Design, implement, and maintain high-performance Android environments running on an embedded Linux host, including containerized or headless Android runtimes where required
- Modify and extend the Android Open-Source Project (AOSP) framework, system services, and Hardware Abstraction Layers (HAL) so they operate efficiently on our devices
- Develop robust IPC so Android software can interact smoothly with Linux applications for peripheral management (audio, cellular/Wi‑Fi, USB, serial, and related interfaces)
- Ensure stable, secure, and low-latency networking spanning the Linux host and Android environment to support cloud synchronization, telemetry, and HTTP-based protocols
- Debug complex issues across the Linux–Android boundary, including memory footprint, startup time, and network stack performance on resource-constrained hardware
- Build software with quality and attention to detail, and help the team focus on continuous improvement — whether related to code quality or internal processes
- Champion engineering best practices, conduct thorough code reviews, and mentor engineers across a range of experience levels
