Senior Software Engineer, Platform Engineering - Macquarie Group

Across Commodities and Global Markets, technology sits close to the decisions that matter.

Financial markets move around the clock, and the technology that supports them needs to move with them. Our quantitative teams and front-office engineers build applications and solutions that support trading, help manage risk, enable research, automate complex workflows and create new opportunities for the business.

Speed matters, but so do resilience, reliability and the ability to scale.

At the heart of this is our cloud-native analytics and rapid delivery platform. What began as a specialist capability for quantitative teams has grown into a widely used engineering platform. The platform provides the foundations for teams to build and run production applications, deliver analytics, orchestrate complex workflows and connect securely with core trading and data systems.

It is the technology people build on every day, and as adoption, workloads and use cases continue to grow, the engineering challenges grow with them.

We are a global financial services group operating in 30 markets with 57 years of unbroken profitability. At Macquarie, you're empowered to shape a career that is fulfilling and creates value. You will bring your insights and expertise to the task at hand and feel supported as you make your own kind of impact for a better future.

What role will you play?

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll combine hands-on coding with thoughtful system design to build and evolve our cloud-native analytics and rapid delivery platform, using open-source technologies and cloud-native services. Working alongside engineers and quantitative teams, you'll enable the safe, rapid delivery of production technology that supports our Commodities and Global Markets business.

You'll tackle the challenges of a growing, multi-tenant platform at scale: evolving execution environments, accelerating code-to-production delivery, orchestrating complex workflows and integrating with trading and data systems. Across this work, you'll improve performance, resilience and developer experience.

A core part of your role will be turning complex technology into reusable services, APIs and capabilities that other teams can build on. You'll think beyond individual applications, designing engineering foundations that support different teams, workloads and use cases across the business.

You'll also help shape the platform through its next stage of growth, strengthening its architecture and engineering foundations while embedding AI-driven capabilities that boost developer productivity and unlock new insights.

What you offer

• Software engineering experience in Python, Java or Scala, designing, building and supporting reliable, production-grade software.
• Experience with distributed systems, shared platforms or data-intensive applications, with an understanding of scalability, resilience, performance and maintainable software design.
• Experience working with cloud platforms, ideally AWS, with exposure to container technologies such as Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Terraform, CloudFormation or similar.
• A grounding in modern engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD and Git-based workflows, alongside familiarity with Linux and networking. Experience with build tooling such as Bazel would be beneficial.
• Exposure to analytics, workflow or distributed-compute technologies, such as Apache Airflow, Dask, JupyterHub or comparable tools, would be helpful.
• An interest in applying AI to software engineering, with experience of AI-assisted development tools, LLMs or agentic workflows.

We love hearing from anyone inspired to build a better future with us, if you're excited about the role or working at Macquarie we encourage you to apply.
