Senior/Staff Software Engineer – Firmware, Pre/Post-Silicon Boot & Automation

Build the Future of SoC Software Validation!Do you enjoy solving complex engineering problems? Are you passionate about automation, embedded systems, and understanding how a chip boots from its first instruction?

We are looking for a Senior/Staff Software Engineer to help us build the tools and automation that make firmware development, system boot, and SoC validation faster and more reliable.

Our team works across the SoC development lifecycle, from early software development to silicon bring-up. We develop and validate firmware across simulation, emulation, FPGA/prototyping environments, and post silicon.

You’ll work with engineers across firmware, silicon, architecture, operating systems, and validation to solve technical challenges, improve test coverage, and create automation that can be reused across different platforms.

We value engineers who enjoy writing good software, exploring how systems work, and finding practical ways to simplify complex engineering tasks.

What You’ll Do

You’ll help us design and build automation that supports firmware development and system validation throughout the SoC lifecycle.

Your work will include:

• Build automation frameworks using Python and other programming languages to support firmware testing, system boot, platform bring-up, and regression testing.
• Automate SoC boot workflows, from firmware builds and deployment to platform configuration, boot execution, log collection, failure detection, and reporting.
• Develop reusable test solutions that work across simulation, emulation, FPGA/prototyping environments, and post silicon, adapting to platform-specific capabilities.
• Validate firmware and boot components, including Boot ROM, security firmware, trusted firmware, bootloaders, UEFI, Linux, and platform initialization.
• Investigate complex failures across firmware, operating systems, hardware models, silicon, and automation infrastructure. Build tools that make debugging and failure analysis easier.
• Improve continuous testing by integrating automated validation into CI/CD pipelines and developing reliable regression and release-validation workflows.
• Collaborate and share knowledge with engineers across teams, review technical designs, and help improve our automation architecture and engineering practices.

As a Senior/Staff Engineer, you’ll also shape technical decisions, guide framework architecture, mentor engineers, and help define how we approach firmware and platform validation across projects.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for engineers who combine strong software development skills with an interest in firmware, embedded systems, and SoC technology.

You should bring:

• 8-15 years of strong Python programming skills, experience developing reusable automation frameworks, and working knowledge of C, C++, or Rust.
• Experience in firmware, embedded systems, SoC software, system boot, platform validation, or test automation.
• Understanding of SoC boot flows, including Boot ROM, firmware initialization, bootloaders, UEFI, and operating-system boot.
• Familiarity with the SoC development lifecycle and validation using simulation, emulation, FPGA/prototyping environments, or post-silicon platforms.
• Experience with Linux, shell scripting, debugging tools, source control, and CI/CD systems.
• Ability to investigate technical issues, develop maintainable software, and work effectively with engineers from different teams.

We encourage candidates with experience in one or more platform environments to apply. You don’t need to have worked with every stage of the SoC lifecycle.

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, will help you succeed in this role.

Experience That Would Be Helpful

You may also have experience in some of these areas:

• Arm-based SoCs, Arm Fixed Virtual Platforms (FVPs), RTL simulation, hardware emulation, FPGA platforms, or silicon bring-up.
• Firmware technologies such as Boot ROM, Trusted Firmware-A (TF-A), RSE or similar security firmware, U-Boot, EDK II/UEFI, and Linux.
• Secure boot, trusted execution, device trees, ACPI, and platform security.
• Pytest, Robot Framework, or other automation and validation frameworks.
• Hardware debugging and management interfaces such as JTAG, serial consoles, BMCs, Redfish, or IPMI.
• Container-based testing, remote lab management, distributed test execution, dashboards, and automated failure analysis.

In Return

Based in Bangalore India, this is an opportunity to join a dynamic, collaborative, and driven team, and provides a genuine opportunity to craft the best outcomes for Arm.
