Your Company:
NET Recruit is proud to be partnering with a growing, engineer-led industrial cooling business in their search for an experienced Service Technician to support its expanding southern service operation.
The organisation specialises in designing, supplying, installing, maintaining and repairing industrial process cooling equipment, including process chillers, glycol systems and associated cooling plant. Working with customers across manufacturing, food and drink, and other industries, the business is committed to delivering reliable engineering solutions and high-quality technical support.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced refrigeration engineer to join a supportive team, undertake varied field-based work and play an important role in the continued growth of the business.
Your Role and Responsibilities:
While in this position your duties may include but may not be limited to:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance, breakdown diagnosis and remedial repairs on process chillers, refrigeration equipment and associated cooling systems.
- Attending customer sites independently across the South and South Central region, with occasional travel elsewhere in the UK when required.
- Diagnosing electrical, mechanical, refrigeration and control faults, completing effective repairs and aiming for a first-time fix.
- Undertaking refrigerant leak testing, recovery, recharging, pressure testing, evacuation and commissioning in line with F-Gas regulations and industry best practice.
- Maintaining associated equipment, including pumps, glycol circuits, buffer vessels, heat exchangers, controllers and inverter drives.
- Completing accurate engineering reports, including readings, findings, photographs, parts used and recommendations for further work.
- Maintaining refrigerant handling and leak-check records to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Identifying remedial work, equipment upgrades and efficiency improvements, providing clear technical recommendations to the office team.
- Preparing technical scopes for remedial quotations, including required works, parts, labour estimates, risks and access requirements.
- Completing approved remedial works to a high standard, leaving customer sites clean, safe and fully documented.
- Communicating technical findings and recommended next steps clearly and professionally to customers.
- Keeping the central service team informed of job progress, delays, parts requirements and follow-up actions.
- Following health and safety procedures relating to electrical isolation, pressure systems, working at height and customer site requirements.
- Maintaining company vehicles, tools and test equipment in a safe and serviceable condition.
- Supporting colleagues and sharing technical knowledge to help develop the wider service operation.
What You Will Need to Apply:
- Substantial field-based experience servicing industrial refrigeration, process chillers or comparable refrigeration systems. Candidates with strong refrigeration fundamentals who are keen to develop their process cooling experience will also be considered.
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills, including the ability to interpret wiring diagrams and control circuits.
- Appropriate F-Gas certification for your duties. Category 1 certification, such as City & Guilds 2079 or CITB J11, is required for independent refrigerant handling.
- A full UK driving licence.
- The confidence to work independently, organise your workload and make sound technical decisions on customer sites.
- A professional, customer-focused approach and the ability to explain technical issues clearly.
- Strong attention to detail when completing engineering reports and compliance records.
- A reliable, methodical approach to fault diagnosis and delivering high-quality repairs.
An NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, or an equivalent qualification, would be advantageous. Experience with process chillers, glycol systems, pumps, controllers, inverter drives, major chiller and compressor brands or Turbocor technology would also be beneficial. Knowledge of lower-GWP refrigerants, 18th Edition, relevant site safety certifications and job management software such as Simpro would be an advantage.
What You Will Get in Return:
In return, you will receive a basic salary of circa £50,000, depending on experience and qualifications, plus paid overtime and an annual performance-related bonus. The package includes a company vehicle, mobile phone, tablet and/or laptop, specialist tools, workplace pension, generous holiday entitlement, PPE and ongoing training and certification support.
You will join an engineer-led business that understands the demands of field service and provides dedicated office support for scheduling, parts and administration. The role offers varied technical work beyond routine maintenance, alongside the opportunity to develop your expertise and contribute to the growth of the southern service operation.
