About the role
Forkey Fabrication is a contract manufacturing company located in Cortland, NY. We are building our own internal product, KitBoss, a Python/Django web-based manufacturing execution system. It integrates with our ERP and serves both office staff and tablet users on site.
We're hiring a mid-level software developer to develop and support KitBoss. You'll build new modules and features, improve the existing platform, and keep it reliable in production.
This is a hands-on role with real ownership. You'll work directly with the people who use what you build, see your work in use soon after it ships, and help shape the product's direction. Small team with short feedback loops.
Key Responsibilities
- KitBoss development: Design, build and ship new KitBoss modules and features end to end, from data models and back-end logic to user interfaces.
- System design: Design application architecture and data models that scale with growing usage, using caching, background job queues and sound concurrency handling.
- API & integration: Design, develop and maintain secure RESTful APIs and data integrations with the ERP and other business systems.
- Database management: Optimize database schemas, write complex SQL queries, and manage data persistence with the Django ORM on Microsoft SQL Server.
- Security & auth: Implement and maintain authentication, role-based authorization and secure handling of business data.
- Testing automation: Write thorough unit, integration and regression test suites to keep code quality high.
- CI/CD & deployment: Maintain automated build and deployment pipelines; ship releases from staging to production, including database migrations.
- Performance tuning: Troubleshoot, debug and optimize application performance, slow queries and background-job throughput.
- Production support: Monitor KitBoss in production, resolve issues, support users, and write technical and user documentation.
