Full-Time Permanent Position
JMT Consultants is a North American-based global leader specializing in steel and concrete design solutions. Services include pre-construction modeling, structural design support, steel and concrete detailing, connection and stair engineering, panel book detailing, estimate modeling, and BIM management.
Join our dynamic and rapidly expanding development team as a Software Developer – Steel Detailing! Bring strong development skills and hands-on steel-industry knowledge to build reliable software for steel detailing, engineering, fabrication, and project delivery.
Reporting to the Technical Product Manager, you will develop and maintain C#/.NET plugins, desktop applications, and integrations with web-platforms. Working with detailing and engineering experts, developers, and QA, you will translate approved requirements into accurate, production-ready software.
This is a hands-on development role covering both desktop tools and data integrations from the outset. AI-assisted coding is a core part of our workflow.
What You’ll do:
- Develop steel detailing software: Design, build, debug, and maintain C#/.NET plugins and desktop tools for Tekla Structures, applying your steel-industry knowledge to deliver reliable, practical functionality.
- Implement approved engineering rules: Translate rules established or approved by engineering specialists into connection-selection, design, and plugin logic. Verify implementation against those rules and refer engineering decisions back to the experts.
- Translate detailing requirements into precise behaviour: Define geometry, tolerances, and edge cases for coped or shallow beams, sloped or skewed members, mismatched depths, and column-web versus flange framing.
- Build desktop-to-web integrations: Develop and maintain the pipelines that exchange model and project information between desktop engineering and detailing tools and our web platform, preserving accuracy in both directions.
- Maintain reliable data mappings: Preserve identifiers, marks, profiles, assemblies, capacities, geometry, and statuses as information moves between models, drawings, revisions, RFIs, package data, and viewer exports.
- Use AI-assisted development effectively: Apply AI coding tools throughout development while critically reviewing generated code, testing its behaviour, and maintaining responsibility for software quality and domain accuracy.
- Verify software against real models: Check plugin output and integrations against approved rules, applicable standards, and fabrication and erection practice. Confirm geometry, clearances, tolerances, and data accuracy before release.
