Must have
- 5+ years' experience delivering end-to-end software development projects from design to deployment and support
- Expert-level software engineering skills: requirements analysis, system design, development, testing, deployment
- Strong experience with Kotlin, Java and other JVM-based languages
- Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
- Front-end development experience with Vue.js and modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks

The opportunity
We're growing our Broking Operations team and are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to help drive the ongoing development of Howden Bridge, our online quote-and-bind platform, as we continue to expand our digital insurance capability.
This is a hands-on role with real scope to shape the technical direction of Bridge, working closely with Operations, Broking, Underwriting, Solutions and Architecture teams to turn business requirements into practical technology solutions.
This role will be responsible for end-to-end ownership of software development across Howden Bridge, from solution design through to development, testing and release.
Responsibilities will include:
- Developing new features, products, integrations and enhancements that support Howden's digital distribution strategy.
- Working closely with Operations, Broking, Underwriting, Solutions and Architecture teams to turn business requirements into practical technology solutions.
- Designing secure, scalable, reliable and user-friendly solutions.
- Investigating and resolving complex production issues and defects.
- Providing technical guidance to other engineers and helping improve engineering standards and development practices.
- Contributing to the longer-term technical roadmap for Bridge and associated digital products.
