Full description
We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Pricing and Subscription team, a group of nine engineers responsible for the company’s core revenue-generating experiences, including rate cards, upsell, and checkout. In this role, you will partner closely with Product Management to review requirements and shape the roadmap, and you will drive a strong culture of experimentation through extensive A/B testing. This is a hands-on leadership position: you will be expected to remain technically engaged, reviewing technical designs and code changes to uphold engineering quality across the team.
What You Will Do
- Lead a team of 9 engineers (including backend, frontend and QA) responsible for pricing, packaging, promotions and subscriptions experiences across our web and mobile products.
- Partner with Product, Finance, Marketing, and Data to translate business priorities into the technical roadmap
- Share progress and results with leadership, and help guide trade-off decisions by clearly explaining the risks, options, and expected return on engineering investment.
- Stay hands-on: review code and designs, help debug production issues.
- Build and run an experimentation practice that includes A/B testing, feature flags, clear success metrics and guardrails, so the team can ship pricing changes quickly and read the results with confidence.
- Design and maintain the services that hold pricing rules, plans, discounts and promotions, and make sure they stay accurate, auditable and consistent with billing and payments systems.
- Work with architects to break up legacy platform components and move core pricing capabilities to an event-driven architecture.
- Champion engineering best practices across the domain, including observability, testing, performance, scalability and security.
- Recruit, mentor and develop engineers, and build a team culture of ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Oversee on-call practices, SLAs and incident management to keep the platform resilient and available.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- 3+ years leading engineering teams as an Engineering Manager or Team Lead, including experience managing a large team or multiple teams.
- A track record of delivering pricing, monetization, subscription or checkout work in a consumer-facing product.
- Experience running experiments and using data to decide what to build next.
- Hands-on technical skills across the full stack, and enough familiarity with our stack to take part in design and code review. Experience with Java or Golang is required.
- Experience with AWS and microservices architecture is a plus.
- Working knowledge of billing and payment systems, and of payment security and compliance such as PCI-DSS, is a plus.
