Sr. Mechanical Engineer

Are you driven to define the benchmark for high-performance hardware in the world of quantum computing?

At Qblox, we're accelerating the worldwide race to build scalable quantum computers, providing the world's best quantum control stacks. We're not just building hardware; we're building the future.

Where you come in:

Qblox builds the advanced control and readout hardware that powers quantum computers. Our R&D team ensures that every mechanical component, thermal dissipation path, and RF shield operates flawlessly to generate and protect the high-precision analogue signals essential for controlling and reading out quantum bits.

As our Sr. Mechanical Engineer, you will tackle complex mechanical challenges from root-cause identification to the conceptualization and implementation of innovative solutions. You will ensure that mechanical designs seamlessly integrate into our advanced systems, delivering products that meet exacting performance, thermal, and electromagnetic shielding standards. Your expertise in CAD design, mechanical analysis, and engineering principles will be instrumental in bringing our cutting-edge products to life.

• Lead Mechanical Development: Lead the development, optimization, and implementation of mechanical solutions for electronic products and PCB assemblies.

• Design Complex Assemblies: Design mechanical components, assemblies, enclosures, heatsinks, and RF shields with a strict focus on manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

• Perform Advanced Simulations: Perform mechanical, thermal, and structural analysis and simulations (FEA, CFD, thermal management, and EMI/RF shielding considerations).

• Verify & Validate: Execute design verification, prototyping, hands-on testing, and validation of mechanical designs throughout the product development lifecycle.

• Bridge Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate closely with cross-functional electronic, RF, and system-level teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electronic systems.

• Manage Technical Documentation: Generate and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including specifications, 2D/3D CAD drawings, BOMs, and assembly instructions.

• Maintain Compliance & Standards: Ensure all mechanical designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.

• Guide & Drive Excellence: Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical expertise while supporting Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) initiatives to optimize production.

Why you'll love it:

• Ignite Your Drive: Work in the deep-tech frontier of quantum computing, solving complex mechanical and thermal engineering puzzles that haven't been tackled before.

• Define the Standard: You'll play a central role in delivering high-precision hardware enclosures and thermal architectures—shaping the exact physical footprint of next-generation quantum computing hardware.

• Collaborate with Brilliance: Partner daily with world-class physicists, RF architects, PCB designers, and system engineers in an open, high-performance culture.

• Unleash Potential: Enjoy significant ownership and autonomy over your mechanical designs, with ample space to experiment, innovate, and make meaningful contributions that directly impact project trajectories.

Enough about us, what about you?

To truly excel and lead the charge in this role, we envision you'll bring the following background and expertise:

The Non-Negotiables:

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.

• Proven Track Record: Minimum of 5 years of experience in product development, preferably with complex electronic products and PCB assemblies.

• System & Component Expertise: Proven experience in both system-level design and detailed engineering of mechanical components, including custom heatsinks and RF shields.

• Prototyping & Validation: Hands-on experience with physical prototyping, laboratory testing, and experimental validation of mechanical and thermal designs.

• CAD & Drafting Mastery: Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar) and highly skilled in creating technical 2D drawings, assemblies, and manufacturing documentation.

• Materials & Manufacturing Knowledge: Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, tolerances, and surface treatments relevant to electronics, enclosures, and PCB housing.

• Simulation Expertise: Hands-on experience with mechanical, thermal, and electrical simulations (FEA, CFD, thermal analysis), including heat dissipation and EMI shielding strategies.

• Cross-Functional Communication: Excellent English communication skills (full professional proficiency, written and spoken) with a collaborative, proactive, and creative “can-do” mentality.

Other things that will help you really enjoy the role:

• Experience with quantum control/readout hardware, high-frequency RF/analog signal chains, or high-end instrumentation.

• Experience with automated manufacturing processes, precision machining, and specialized enclosure thermal management.

• Strong problem-solving abilities with deep attention to detail and a passion for mentoring junior technical talent.
