Pitcairn seeks a hands-on Tax Manager to lead tax compliance execution and staff development while contributing to sophisticated tax planning and consulting for ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, and closely held entities. This player-coach role combines technical expertise, thoughtful client service, and operational leadership with the opportunity to identify planning needs, collaborate with multidisciplinary advisors, and grow beyond traditional tax return preparation.
Key Responsibilities — Tax Preparation & Review
- Manage workflow and completion of complex or sensitive federal and state returns; prepare selected returns and perform first-level technical reviews of Forms 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120 and 1120-S, including workpapers and related state filings.
- Review K-1 reporting, investment income, capital gains, basis and loss limitations, trust distributions, multistate matters, estimated taxes and extensions; resolve discrepancies and escalate significant technical issues.
- Ensure returns are accurate, well documented, timely and ready for final review; support tax projections, notices and technical research as needed.
Tax Planning & Client Advisory
- Identify potential tax planning opportunities and issues through return review, financial information and ongoing client activity; bring observations and recommendations to tax leadership and advisory teams.
- Assist with tax planning and consulting projects, including multiyear projections, estimated tax strategies, charitable giving, trust and estate-related tax considerations, and closely held business transactions, as appropriate to experience.
- Collaborate with relationship managers and investment, fiduciary and other advisors to translate complex tax information into practical, coordinated client recommendations.
Staff Supervision & Workflow Management
- Directly supervise, coach and develop tax preparers and support staff; assign work, balance capacity, provide actionable review notes and assess performance.
- Own the annual compliance calendar and workflow from organizers and document requests through preparation, review, e-filing and delivery; track open items, deadlines and return status.
